FRIENDS, PLEASE SHARE. I feel the following is a perfect way to share my true heart and character, and make some lemonade out of lemons.
"...Radford City Council Candidates Faced Criminal Charges..." . This was the eye catching headline of a story in the Roanoke Times over the weekend.
For my personal record, the article references a 19yr old felony embezzlement charge that was ultimately dismissed. I am proud of my character and have nothing to hide.
This is an opportunity to share with you an example of that character while facing adversity, so let's look at the details.
At the time I was working at Target and took a raincheck ticket on a TV that I wanted to purchase. The model I had rain checked never arrived and was discontinued, so I used the same rain check for a different TV (of slightly LESSER value).
A loss prevention specialist looking to make a name for himself made an example of my case and it ended up in court.
I did in fact use the raincheck for a different TV (again, of lesser value), so I pleaded no contest. I performed over 100hrs of community service at the United Way of Radford, Montgomery, and Floyd. After completion, my record was expunged.
But here's where the story gets good. Rather than wallow in circumstances that could have been considered unfair, I brought my best to the situation, as I always try to do.
They found my contribution so valuable that I was put on payroll!
Not only that, but I was awarded VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR.
Though I may have wished for more context, I am not ashamed one bit of the events described in the article that ran.
It's an opportunity to show you my heart for taking bad situations and bringing the best out of them through honest hard work, perseverance, and positivity.
That's exactly the contribution that I what I want to bring to Radford City Council.
I have nothing to hide...and I'm ready to serve Radford.
