A Story of Giving: The Heart of a Kentucky Colonel
In Kentucky, the title of Colonel has never been about rank โ it has always been about responsibility. A Kentucky Colonel is expected to lift others, to strengthen the community, and to show up when kindness is needed most. And in the Central Kentucky Chapter, that spirit isnโt just tradition โ itโs a weekly practice.
This spring, the Chapter came together to assemble and donate Derby and Bourbon Oaks baskets, each one crafted with care, pride, and the unmistakable generosity that defines the Commonwealthโs highest honor. The baskets werenโt just gifts; they were symbols โ reminders that service is most meaningful when it is personal.
When the baskets reached their destination, the response was immediate and heartfelt. A handwritten note arrived, addressed to the Chapter, carrying gratitude that spoke to the impact of their work. It read:
**โDear Colonel Thompsett and the Central Kentucky Chapter,
Thank you for the wonderful Derby and Bourbon Oaks baskets. You helped the honored awardees over $1,000. Thank you!
We appreciate your continued support and all that you do to bring Colonels together weekly.
Sincerely,
Heather Campbellโ**
For the Colonels, this wasnโt just a thankโyou โ it was a reminder of why they gather, why they give, and why they continue to serve. Every basket, every meeting, every act of support strengthens the bonds between Colonels and the communities they uplift.
In Kentucky, service is a legacy.
In the Central Kentucky Chapter, it is a living, breathing commitment โ one that grows with every act of generosity, every shared moment of fellowship, and every handwritten note that says, simply, thank you.
