Leadership Transition at United Way of Racine County

Dear Community,

After 15 years with United Way of Racine County, including serving as president and CEO since 2019, Ali Haigh will depart the organization effective Oct. 30, 2026. As UWRC’s first female president and CEO, Ali has helped shape our organization and strengthen its role as a community leader and partner.

United Way of Racine County’s board has appointed Chief Operating Officer Jessica Safransky-Schacht as interim president and CEO following Ali’s departure. Jessica brings a deep understanding of our community and a strong commitment to United Way and will provide continuity and stability.

During Ali’s time as CEO, she guided United Way of Racine County through the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, navigated government funding uncertainty alongside our partners, stewarded transformative opportunities such as the MacKenzie Scott gift, and helped shape and implement our current strategic plan. She also modernized internal processes and contributed to the broader United Way network through service on the state board and National Advisory Council.

We are grateful for the dedication, leadership and lasting contributions that have helped position United Way of Racine County to continue serving our community and wish Ali the best as she begins an exciting new chapter.

Our VITA team is looking for volunteers to help local families tackle tax season and access free tax preparation. No tax experience needed. We provide the training, and there are several ways to help, including roles that don’t involve preparing taxes.

Swing on by and learn about VITA! Interested in volunteering this tax season? Stop by Thursday, October 29, from 6:00–8:00 p.m. at The Lanes to meet our VITA team, ask questions and learn about the different ways you can help. No tax experience required.

Max graduated from Shepherds College this June with real-world experience and the confidence to take his next step.

At Union Grove Elementary School, Max helped with lunch service, cleanup and food preparation. With each shift, he grew more independent and needed less support.

Max was one of 26 Shepherds College graduates this year, each completing 700+ hours of occupational experience training. More than 90% of graduates secure employment after completing the program.

For Max, it’s more than job training. It’s a path to independence, opportunity and a future in the workforce.

Big dreams start with little books!

Racine County children under age 5 can receive a free book in the mail every month through Imagination Library. It’s a simple way to build a home library and make reading part of every child’s day.

429 hours helping local students become stronger readers! United Way of Racine County’s Schools of Hope tutors give students the one on one support they need to build reading skills, confidence and a stronger future.

Big cheers for Rod Parsons!

Rod, a longtime United Way volunteer, was honored at the Wisconsin Department of Revenue’s VITA/TCE Volunteers of the Year award ceremony for his dedication to serving local taxpayers.

And VITA is just one way Rod gives back. He’s a familiar face around UWRC, lending his time and talents to help our community in so many ways.
