Hey Friends!! Just a quick reminder about the Great Basement Purge happening this Saturday, June 20th from 9:00am to 1:00pm. More hands makes easier work so please consider coming to help out for as much or as little time as you have to offer. We would really appreciate it!!

Season's end means one glorious tradition: the Great Basement Purge! Props are multiplying. Furniture is staging a coup. The storage area has developed its own ecosystem. And we need YOUR help to restore order before the chaos achieves sentience.
Here's the plan:
🗑️ Dumpster out back — finally, your chance to hurl a Victorian settee into a bin with no consequences
🔧 Reorganize the props area — make it a place of beauty and logic (or at least function)
💪 As many hands as possible — the more, the merrier, and the faster we're done
Roll in at 9am or whenever you can drag yourself there — no judgment! We'll keep going until 1:00 PM.
Bonus perks:
High schoolers: this counts toward volunteer hours ✅
New volunteers: perfect way to meet the crew and see what we're all about

05/26/2026

The Over Our Head Players will be holding auditions for the first show of the 2026/2027 season, “FIREBRINGER”, on Saturday, June 27th, 2026, from 10:00am to 2:00pm at the Sixth Street Theatre 318 6th St Racine, WI 53403.
Audition time slots will run from:
10:00am to 11:00am, 11:00am to 12:00pm, 12:00pm to 1:00pm, and 1:00pm to 2:00pm.

Those auditioning should sign up for a time slot by emailing director Anne Mollerskov at [email protected].

**If you are not available on June 27th, you can also email Anne for a possible alternate day and time or you can send in a video audition by June 27th. **

Auditioners must be 18 years old, or older.

We are seeking 11 SINGING AND DANCING HOMO SAPIENS of any ethnicity for the cast of FIREBRINGER:

JAMILLA – Vocal range: Mezzo-Soprano (Fd-D5) The Peacemaker. Jamilla is the leader of the tribe. Charismatic, confident, protective, and motherly, but a little arrogant and stuck in her ways.
ZAZZALIL – Vocal range: Mezzo-Soprano (G3-D5) One of the tribe’s gatherers. A creative and innovative, but lazy, inventor. Revolutionary thinker but doesn’t always consider the consequences of her actions.
KEERI – Vocal range: Mezzo-Soprano (A3-C5) The tribe’s head gatherer. A little dim but kind and empathetic. Zazzalil’s supportive best friend.
MOLAG – Vocal range: Non-Singing. The war master. Molag is the tribe’s former leader who has passed on the role to Jemilla and is now walking the Earth while serving as our comic narrator.
EMBERLY – Vocal range: Mezzo-Soprano (G3-D5) The tribe’s taste tester. Analytical, cautious but curious to learn or experience new things. Has a thing for Grunt.
GRUNT – Vocal range: High Baritone (C3-F4) An outsider to the tribe. Timid and sensitive, he wants to feel included and tries hard to do so despite past failures. Has a thing for Emberly.
SCHWOOPSIE – Vocal range: Mezzo-Soprano (A3-D5) The entertainer of the tribe. A comedian who invents the first joke and keeps the tribe in stitches. Turns their name into their own catchphrase.
DUCKER – Vocal range: High Baritone (A2-F4) The religious leader of the tribe and mouthpiece of the all-mighty duck that the tribe worships. Uses their position in the tribe for their own self-serving, opportunistic, and privileged gain.
TIBLYN – Vocal range: Mezzo-Soprano (B3-D5) The hard worker of the tribe. Loyal and dedicated to the tribe and their task of holding up the sky. A hopeless romantic.
SMELLY-BALLS – Vocal range: High Baritone (A2-F4) The “dude” of the tribe. Fancies himself the protector. Not so bright. When it comes to bravery, all bark and no bite.
CHORN – Vocal range: Mezzo-Soprano (G3-E5) The “odd one” of the tribe. Their vocabulary is seemingly limited. They do not attempt to communicate to the tribe despite a varying degree of success.

For the audition, please be prepared to sing 32 bars of vocal solo of your choice that best reflects your voice type and ability. Auditioners must bring in sheet music. An accompanist will be provided. No acapella or tracks, please.
There will also be cold readings from the script and a choreographed routine, so please bring clothes to move in.

Headshots and resumes are welcome but not required.

Performances will run from September 25th to October 18th, 2026.

EXTRA! EXTRA! READ ALL ABOUT IT! OOHP SEEKS ADDITION RUN CREW FOR SALMON-A-RAMA! EXTRA! EXTRA! – When you see the show, you’ll know why that’s funny.

Hi friends! As we prepare to open the last show of the season, “Salmon-A-Rama: The Sketch Comedy Puppet Musical That Your Children Won’t Understand”, it has been decided that, due to the fact that there are more moving parts than we initially expected, we will need more folks for the run crew. So, if you have been looking for an opportunity to volunteer, even if it is just for one performance, here is your chance.

We will need one person to help out at each performance. You can do one show or you can do the whole run. That is up to you. There will be no need to be at a rehearsal. We can show you what needs to be done as we go. It’s very simple stuff but necessary to the successful run of the performance.

If you are interested and available, please email [email protected] right away so we can make sure all of our spots are full. For Fridays, your call time would be 7:00pm. Saturdays would be 4:00pm (there will be two shows those days), Sundays would be 1:30pm and Thursdays would be 6:00pm. Just let us know what day(s) you want and they will filled on a first come basis.

The schedule is a follows:
Friday, May 8th One show
Saturday, May 9th Two shows
Sunday, May 10th One show
Friday, May 15th One show
Saturday, May 16th Two shows
Sunday, May 17th One show
Thursday, May 21st One show
Friday, May 22nd One show
Saturday, May 23rd Two shows
Sunday, May 24th One show
Thursday, May 28th One show
Friday, May 29th One show
Saturday, May 30th Two shows

We hope to hear from you soon!

Thanks!

Thank you to everyone who volunteered on Creative Crawl at First Friday tonight! We had a lot of fun with our Joke Booth - telling jokes and riffing with anyone who dared to approach our puppets. We even had a few jokes told to us, including by kids, which was super fun! This was a wonderful outreach event - we chatted with several people who had never heard of us before and were glad to learn about us.

Organizers: Anne Mollerskov and Rebecca Eisel
Puppeteers / Joke Tellers: Maureen Troy, Michael Retzlaff, Anne Mollerskov, Cody Ernest, and Dominick Knox
Booth Assistants: Julie Boehme and Rebecca Eisel
Poster Artist: Kenzie Novak
Booth Creation / Set Up / Take Down: Lonnie McGuire

Thank you to Sarah Jade for recruiting Kenzie to make the amazing poster and for getting it to the theatre.

Hey everyone! This is just one last reminder about auditions tonight for Salmon-A-Rama.

Auditions will be held tonight, Tuesday, February 17th, at 7:00pm at the Sixth Street Theatre, 318 Sixth Street, Racine, WI, 53403. Auditions will consist of informal reading, singing, and playing. Bringing a prepared monologue is not required. Vocal auditions will consist of 16-24 measures of a song (any song that you like) that shows off your range and personality. No accompanist will be provided so you can sign a ca****la or bring in your own track.

The cast will consist of 6-8 musically inclined actors and comedians working also as puppeteers. Actors can be any age and from any background. No puppet experience is required. Training will be included in the rehearsal process. A cast that varies in age and background is always encouraged and preferred.

Our musical takes place in Racine, Wisconsin in 1975. North Beach just might have a problem with a rogue man-eating salmon! Will we ever go back into the water again??

Rehearsals will begin in late February / early March. Performances will run from Friday, May 8th through Sunday, May 31st. Shows run Thursdays at 7:00pm, Fridays at 8:00pm, Saturdays at 5:00 and 8:00pm, and Sundays at 2:30pm.

If there are any questions, or if you have a conflict with the audition date, please reach out to Managing Artistic Director Rich Smith at [email protected] or 262-632-6802.
