Wounds you can’t see are often the hardest to heal. Emotional neglect and psychological abuse don't leave physical marks, making them easier to overlook—but the impact on a child's development is profound.

We need to move beyond looking for bruises and start looking at the child. Awareness is the first step toward protection. 💙

🧠 Myth: Child abuse is culturally acceptable in some communities.
✅ Truth: Child abuse is never acceptable—no matter where you live, what language you speak, or what traditions you grew up with.
Sometimes harm gets excused or overlooked as “just cultural,” which can prevent kids from getting help and support.
We can respect culture while still protecting children.
If something feels unsafe, it matters—and support is available.

Myth: Alcohol or drug use excuses abusive behavior toward children.
Truth: Using alcohol or substances as an excuse for abusive behavior is common, but substances do not cause abuse. These explanations are often manipulative tactics used to shift blame or minimize harm. It is important for victims and others to recognize that responsibility always lies with the person who caused the harm.

No matter how this week starts, be gentle with yourself.
You do not have to have everything figured out today. Small steps still count, and asking for support is never weakness.

Myth #1: Child abuse only happens in lower-income families.
Fact: Child abuse does not discriminate. It happens in big cities and small towns, in homes, schools, and places of worship. It affects all races, socioeconomic backgrounds, and communities. Abuse can take many forms—physical, emotional, verbal, mental, sexual, or neglect.
Awareness helps protect children. 💙
"Child abuse occurs in homes, schools, faith settings, and communities
Includes physical, sexual, emotional abuse and neglect
Affects children across all backgrounds"
