Agrivoltaics is a climate-smart solution that uses solar panels to create a controlled microclimate, protecting crops from extreme weather while generating renewable energy. The shade provided by elevated solar panels reduces soil temperature and evaporation rates. It helps protect delicate, high-value vegetable crops from the harsh, direct sun that can cause heat stress. Great Lakes CCC crews completed the removal of sod under its solar PV training array, and will be preparing the underlying soil for planting.
