Tonight at 7pm!

We're back at Spectrum School of the Arts and Gallery (2000 Wisconsin Ave. Racine, WI 53403) for our Grassroots Open Mic. This is an all-ages event open to all forms of expression.

We do not have a featured artist tonight, just a good old pure open mic.

Many thanks to the Osborne and Scekic Family Foundation for their ongoing sponsorship. And another big thank you to Wilson's Coffee & Tea for always donating freshly roasted coffee for our attendees. This evening will feature a Sumatra medium roast.

Free admission. Donations are appreciated. We also collect non-perishable food items for the Racine County Food Bank. If you have some extra, please bring them along and toss them in the box.

Our co-founder Nick Ramsey has been a member of the Racine, WI community arts organization, ArtRoot, since their inception. This organization aligns with our beliefs in empowering artists. Here's what he had to say:

If you are an artist, you represent an arts organization, or you just love art in all its forms, please consider joining us this Thursday, October 16th from 6-9pm at The Branch at 1501 Washington Ave. Racine, WI 53403 for our Fall 2025 ArtRoot ArtsMixer.

There will be free food from our pals at Don Arepas Cafe, drinks for purchase, and a whole bunch of information/connections to help you bring goodness into the world.

ArtRoot hosts these mixers two times a year (in the spring and in the fall). This will be the 19th mixer we've hosted. We've been at this for over ten years and much good has come from it. Here's an opportunity you do not want to miss.

We're back at Spectrum School of the Arts and Gallery (2000 Wisconsin Ave. Racine, WI 53403) tomorrow (Wednesday, October 8th) beginning at 7pm for the Grassroots Open Mic - Racine. Doors open at 6pm and guests are welcome to enjoy many rooms of art and make some new friends.

Our featured artist is our dear friend, Brent Mitchell. Brent is a former Kenosha County Poet Laureate, a tremendous songwriter and singer, and he is filled with stories that take you on a journey every time. We're grateful for his friendship and blessed to have him in our community.

This is an all-ages event open to all forms of expression. It's also free to attend. We do accept donations and collect non-perishable food items for the Racine County Food Bank.

Our featured artist this evening, Catherine Cowie, is a new friend of ours who recently released her debut poetry book, Heirloom, on Carcanet Press.

Catherine-Esther Cowie was born in St. Lucia to a Trinidadian father and a St. Lucian mother. She migrated with her family to Canada and then to the USA. Her poems have been published in PN Review, Prairie Schooner, West Branch Journal, The Common, SWWIM, Rhino Poetry and others. Catherine-Esther Cowie is a Callaloo Creative Writing Workshop fellow.
