Celebrate the Nations! Experience the gardens that celebrate the many unique cultures of our country. During the garden season.

(May – November) The Nehemiah Garden's roots were planted in 2004, originally as Racine Gardens of the Nehemiah Project. It was founded by Pastor Bill Thompkins with a focus on sustainable gardens and beautification in the inner city. For 16 years we distributed perennial and annual plants to over 150 families every year and promoted environmentally friendly gardening. The garden, located at 4414

Northwestern Avenue in Racine, WI, and features the following structures and gardens:

~Asian Garden: featuring the colors, depth, and peace of Asian gardens
~Henry “Box” Brown’s Underground Railroad Train
~Underground Railroad Trail: a self-guided historical tour
~Theopolis’s Slave House: Reconstruction Time period 1863-1877; replica of a former slave's house.
~Dedication Wall recognizing the 1940-60s courageous Midwest Black migration (Kenosha, Beloit, Racine)
~An African American history trail: Highlighting people and events of African American History.
~Booker T. Washington school: a replica of early school and a place for continual education.
~Latino Garden: celebrating the diverse Latino culture.
~The “New Go West" Frontier Garden featuring Post Office and a snapshot of frontier living.
~Native American Campsite Garden
~9/11 Impressions Garden Walk (unveiled at the 9/11 American Day of Gray event 9/11/2021)

The Nehemiah Garden is a ministry of Koinania and will be a place where we continue to grow and give away plants, as we celebrate the various ethnic cultures of America.

The great migration is a story of American history to be remembered, honored, and celebrated by us all.

As part of our historic Gardens of the Nations at The Nehemiah Project, we are adding the names of Black Americans to our Dedication Wall recognizing the 1940-60's courageous Midwest Black Migration (Racine, Kenosha, Beloit, etc).
