NOTICE OF SEPTEMBER, OCTOBER MEETINGS AND NOVEMBER ELECTION

Dear Member: Please note the following General Membership meetings of the NAACP Branch, for the purpose of election of officers and at-large members of the executive committee.

1. On September 26, 2026, Racine NAACP Office1633 Racine Street, Racine WI, 10:00 am, there will be an election of the Nominating Committee (between 5-15 members). All members whose memberships are current as of 30 days prior to the meeting date may be elected to the Nominating Committee (not more than 2 being officers of the unit).

2. On October 24, 2026, Racine NAACP Office1633 Racine Street, Racine WI, 10:00 am, there will be a report of the Nominating Committee, receipt of Nominations by Petition, and election of the Election Supervisory Committee. All members whose memberships are current as of April 1st of the election year, whose memberships have remained continuous throughout the election process, and who live and/or work within the unit's jurisdiction, may be nominated for office or as an at-large member of the Executive Committee. In order to sign a nominating petition, or be elected to the Election Supervisory Committee, a member must be current as of 30 days prior to the October meeting.

3. On November 21, 2026, the election of officers and at-large members of the Executive Committee will be administered using our electronic voting platform. Voting will open from noon to 4:00 pm. In order to vote in a Branch election, one must be a member in good standing of the Branch 30 days prior to the election.

Should a run-off election be necessary that election occur within (10) days of the original election, via electronic voting platform for (at least 1 hour). We look forward to your participating in these activities.

Tragic Death of Koreem “Golden Child” Ozier

The NAACP Racine Branch extends our deepest condolences to the family, friends, teammates, coaches, and all those mourning the tragic loss of Koreem “Golden Child” Ozier.

Koreem was more than an outstanding basketball player. He was a son of Racine whose accomplishments carried our community far beyond the boundaries of our city. As Case High School’s all-time leading scorer, an All-State basketball player, an NCAA Division I athlete at Sacred Heart University and the University of Louisiana Monroe, and later a professional basketball player overseas, Koreem demonstrated what determination, discipline, and opportunity can make possible.

His accomplishments on the basketball court were remarkable, but those closest to Koreem have spoken just as strongly about the person he was away from basketball—a father, son, friend, mentor, and young man who encouraged others and remained connected to the community that helped raise him.

The circumstances surrounding his death are heartbreaking. According to the Racine Police Department, Koreem was fatally shot Sunday evening near 12th Street and South Memorial Drive. Another promising young life has been lost to gun violence, leaving a family grieving and an entire community searching for answers.

The NAACP Racine Branch believes that our response must extend beyond grief. We must continue working together—families, churches, community organizations, educators, law enforcement, elected officials, and neighborhood leaders—to address violence before another family is forced to experience this pain.

We also encourage anyone who has credible information regarding Koreem’s death to cooperate with investigators. Accountability must come through a fair and thorough investigation and the justice system. At the same time, we ask our community to respect Koreem’s family, reject rumors and retaliation, and allow them the dignity and space necessary to grieve.

Koreem traveled from Racine to Division I basketball and ultimately onto the professional basketball stage internationally. His story showed young people throughout our community that their circumstances do not have to determine how far their dreams can take them.

We mourn what Racine has lost, but we also celebrate what Koreem accomplished during his 27 years of life.

May we honor the “Golden Child” not only by remembering the points he scored or the places basketball took him, but by committing ourselves to creating a Racine where our young people have the opportunity to grow, succeed, raise their families, pursue their dreams, and live long enough to see those dreams fulfilled.

Our prayers remain with Koreem’s daughter, his mother and entire family, and everyone who loved him.
