This evening, I had the esteemed privilege of speaking on behalf of the Little Free Pantries of New Kent and Quinton about food insecurity right here in New Kent County at the New Kent Democratic Party’s fundraising event.

It was truly an amazing evening, and I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to bring awareness to an issue that affects more of our neighbors than many realize.

Food insecurity doesn’t always look like what we expect it to look like and that’s why conversations like these matter. I’m thankful for every opportunity to advocate for our community, share the work being done through our Little Free Pantries, and remind others that we all have a role to play in making sure our neighbors have access to the basic necessities they need.

Thank you for the invitation, the warm reception, and the opportunity to share this message. 💙

Public Service Announcement: While our Little Free Pantry is a food pantry… it is not the place to leave the last handful of chips you didn’t want.

We wish we didn’t have to say that, but here we are.

An opened bag of chips was left in the pantry today. Unfortunately, once food has been opened, it must be discarded because we cannot guarantee it’s safe for someone else to eat.

Please donate only unopened, factory-sealed food items. Small actions like this help protect the health and dignity of everyone who relies on our pantry.

If you’re in the area drop something off at the New Kent Pantry! Every donation helps!

Sunday's high temperature reached 84°.

This sliced ham was left in our non-refrigerated Little Free Pantry. We have no way of knowing how long it sat in the heat before it was discovered.

Please, WE BEG OF YOU, do NOT leave perishable foods such as meat, dairy, frozen items, or anything requiring refrigeration in the pantry. While we appreciate every donation, food safety has to come FIRST.

Someone could become seriously ill from eating items that have been left in unsafe temperatures. Not to mention, these items are welcome mats for unwanted 4 legged guests to squeeze their way in!

Thank you for helping us keep our pantry safe for everyone. 💙🩵
