Outstanding choice for Hokies and agribusiness in the Commonwealth

The Virginia Tech Board of Visitors today appointed Richard Linton as the university’s 17th president.

Linton will succeed Tim Sands, who will continue to serve as president until Linton assumes office at the beginning of the 2027 spring semester.

Part of the Virginia Tech Alumni community, Linton received his bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, and Ph.D. from Virginia Tech. He currently serves as president of Kansas State University.

“My 40-year journey in the land-grant system began at Virginia Tech,” said Linton. “Having earned three degrees here, the opportunity to return home and serve as president of my alma mater is a true honor.”

We had a great day at Shenandale Gun Club at the annual VAC Sporting Clay Tournament on October 9. The weather couldn’t have been better as we spent the day supporting and celebrating agribusiness in the Commonwealth.

Wineries and vineyards that suffered severe crop losses due to multiple frost and freeze weather events this spring have received temporary waivers that allow them to source a higher proportion of grapes from vineyards they do not own or lease in order to continue production while the vineyards recover from damage. Thank you to Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services for submitting a joint exemption request on behalf of the producers.

This week, Council members and staff had an opportunity to meet with Virginia’s congressional delegation to discuss the Farm Bill in the Senate, H-2A reform in the House, and other pertinent issues impacting Virginia agriculture.
