SRH, Inc was founded in memory of the late Steven R. Three sisters from Pembroke, MA started this non-profit in memory of their late father, Steven R. Hussey, who suffered from the effects of a stroke the last 6 years of his life. He suffered a stroke that left him paralyzed in his left arm and with a limp in his left leg as well as other complications. This required him to use a cane and he neede
d daily assistance including getting up and down, getting dressed, etc. This pained his daughters and his wife to watch Steven go from an active father and husband, to someone who had to re-learn how to walk and talk and years later continue to struggle with daily activities that the everyday person takes for granted. However, he always kept a smile on his face and a positive attitude even when he probably wanted to quit. When Steven passed many people in the community and his family were heart broken. His youngest daughter's friends had the idea for a memorial road race which turned out to be a success. It started as keeping Steven's memory alive and has turned into so much more. His wife and daughters realized that they wanted to help other stroke victims and their families that have to go through the challenges of a stroke with hopes to make their lives a little easier. Therefore, after a few more years of running the road race and donating the proceeds to stroke-related organizations, the Hussey family decided to create their own non-profit to focus on supporting stroke victims. This non-profit was named Stroke Rehabilitation & Healing not only because it encompasses the mission, but it is also the initials of Steven Robert Hussey.
