“Honoring the Legacy of Women Who Lead, Serve, and Inspire”

“She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue.”
~ Proverbs 31:25–26 (KJV)

In celebration of Women’s History Month, M. R. Moore Chapter #21 Order of the Eastern Star proudly honors Shanna DeNise Walker, affectionately known as “The Diva Mortician.” We celebrate her as a woman whose life’s work exemplifies excellence, compassion, and unwavering service to the communities of Sycamore, Florida, and the surrounding North Florida and South Georgia regions.

Shanna D. Walker stands as a distinguished and deeply respected Licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer, recognized for more than two decades of exemplary service, technical mastery, and compassionate leadership. Her career reflects an unwavering commitment to excellence and a profound dedication to the families and communities she faithfully serves.

Born and raised in Sycamore, Florida, Shanna’s journey is a testament to purpose shaped by perseverance. Known affectionately as the “Diva Mortician” by her classmates at Florida State College at Jacksonville, she demonstrated early the poise, professionalism, and exceptional skill that would define her career. Over the past 20+ years, she has become a trusted and comforting presence throughout Gadsden, Leon, Jefferson, and Taylor counties, maintaining dual licensure in both Florida and Georgia.

Shanna began her formal training by earning an Associate of Science in Funeral Services from Florida State College at Jacksonville in 2005. She later expanded her academic and spiritual foundation by earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Christian Studies from Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, Arizona an educational path that continues to guide her compassionate and faith-centered approach to serving families during their most sacred moments of loss.

Her professional foundation was built through formative roles at Bradwell Mortuary, Hagan Funeral Service, and Evans-Walker Funeral Home, where she refined her craft under respected mentors and within a proud family legacy. Determined to advance her technical excellence, Shanna pursued specialized training at Fountain National Academy in Springfield, Missouri, studying under the renowned post-mortem reconstructive specialist Vernie Fountain. This prestigious training further elevated her expertise and reputation within the funeral service profession.

A highly sought-after trade and service embalmer, Shanna has provided her expertise to numerous funeral homes across the region. She has also served as a dedicated preceptor, mentoring and shaping the next generation of funeral directors through her high standards, meticulous technique, and unwavering commitment to professional excellence.

Her leadership roles have included serving as LFDIC (Licensed Funeral Director in Charge) of Hagan Funeral Service in Monticello, Florida, and LFDIC of Lohman Funeral Home in Ormond Beach, Florida. Her return to the Tallahassee area marked a celebrated homecoming, where she now contributes her talents and compassionate care to Culley’s MeadowWood Funeral Home.

Beyond her professional achievements, Shanna is a woman of faith, family, and creativity. She finds joy in singing with her sisters, The Walker Sisters, and enjoys traveling and shopping. She is a devoted member of Holy Light Missionary Baptist Church in Havana, Florida, where she faithfully serves as a Deaconess and Christian Education Coordinator, and she remains an active member of the Union Baptist Association, Inc.

With every family she serves, Shanna DeNise Walker brings unmatched compassion, technical excellence, and a steadfast commitment to dignity and grace. Her life’s work reflects the power of women who lead with both professional mastery and a servant’s heart.

Through her dedication, faith, and service, she embodies the very spirit of Women’s History Month a woman whose legacy inspires generations and whose work honors life with dignity, compassion, and excellence.

M. R. Moore Chapter #21 proudly celebrates and honors Shanna DeNise Walker for her extraordinary contributions to funeral service, her community, and the enduring legacy of women who lead with strength, wisdom, and grace.

A Reflection of Sisterly Love

“We Are Our Sisters’ Keeper”
Galatians 6:2 – “Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.”

On Thursday evening, March 4, 2026, the sisters and brothers of M. R. Moore Chapter #21 gathered in a spirit of love, unity, and fellowship to support our beloved Associate Matron, Sister Takiya Moore, and her family during the passing of her precious mother.

With hearts full of compassion, we came together for an old-fashioned fish fry not simply as a meal, but as an expression of the deep sisterly bond that unites us. It was an evening filled with warmth, laughter, memories, and the comforting presence of love. Sister Moore’s family welcomed us with open arms, and her husband, uncles, cousins, and friends ensured that everything was prepared so that we could fellowship together in peace and harmony.

It was truly a moment that reminded us that Eastern Star is not just an organization, it is a family.

As Sister Moore prepared to say her final farewell to her beloved mother, we once again gathered at New Hope M. B. Church to await her arrival. With reverence and unity, we stood with her and her family, surrounding them with prayers, comfort, and the presence of God during such a sacred and tender moment.

The celebration of life was nothing short of spiritual. The presence of the Lord filled the atmosphere as words of remembrance, songs of Zion, and heartfelt reflections lifted the spirit of all who were present. And as is our custom in love and fellowship, we later gathered to break bread together at the repast, continuing the ministry of comfort and community.

Moments like these remind us of a truth that binds us as sisters and brothers: When one of us hurts, we all hurt. When one of us mourns, we all stand together.

For we are reminded in faith and hope that this earthly goodbye is not the end. For those who trust in the Lord, there is a greater promise awaiting us.

Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.

And so we say with blessed assurance: We shall see you in the morning, Ms. Sharlene.

We recognize that the bond between a mother and child is one of God’s most sacred gifts. The wisdom she shared, the strength she instilled, and the love she poured into your life are living testimonies that continue to shine through you.

Because of her nurturing spirit, her guidance, and her prayers, the woman of dignity, grace, and leadership we know today reflects the beautiful legacy she has left behind.

Though the earthly presence of your beloved mother is no longer with you, the lessons she taught, the love she planted, and the faith she instilled will forever live within your heart and within the lives of all who have been blessed by you.

As your sisters and brothers of M. R. Moore Chapter #21, we pledge our continued love, prayers, and support.

May the peace of God surround you, May the comfort of the Holy Spirit strengthen you,
And may the beautiful memories of your mother serve as a guiding light in the days ahead.

OES Weekend Ignites Zone 1 District 6 with Light, Love, and Loyal Service

December 5, 2025—The atmosphere in Gadsden County was nothing short of electric as the weekend began with the theme: “THE FELLOWSHIP EXPERIENCE: Light, Love, and Loyal Service.” This weekend is designed to restore, refresh, and reconnect, and the kickoff could not have been more inspirational.

Hope in the Cold: A Community Covering Initiative

The day began with a purposeful act of service as sisters joined together to support the Gadsden County Emergency Management Department with a generous donation of bottled water for the county’s cold-weather shelter. A heartfelt expression of gratitude goes to Director Teshanda Whaley and Coordinator Candance. This initiative set the tone for a weekend grounded in compassion and unity.

A Night with the Builders: Karaoke, Games, and Holiday Ugly Sweater Fun

Later that evening, the celebration shifted to Silver Star Lodge, where the three chapters—M. R. Moore Chapter, W. S. Stevens, and Greenshade Chapter—came together to honor the strength, unity, and unwavering support of our brothers. It was a meal not only shared but experienced—a testament to the love, unity, and culinary blessing of our sisterhood. Games, laughter, and lasting memories filled the night. Before it ended, cameras captured the beauty of the occasion: smiles, hugs, ugly sweaters, joyful chaos, and a fellowship that only the Order of the Eastern Star and our Masonic Brothers can create. These moments will forever serve as reminders of what unity truly looks like and what we can accomplish when we serve one family at a time.

Up Next: A Grace-Filled Gathering

Tomorrow, the sisters will assemble once more for “Five Points of Grace: A Celebration of Faith, Fidelity, and Friendship,” a luncheon designed to uplift, inspire, and strengthen the bonds of sisterhood.

Stay tuned as OES Weekend continues to unfold in beauty, fellowship, and divine purpose.
