Since 1958, the T.L. Storer Scout Reservation has been more than just a destination—it’s been a place of purpose. Born from the vision of Ted Storer, it was founded with a commitment to conservation and outdoor education, designed to teach young people about trees, plants, animals, and the delicate health of the natural world around them. For generations, it has been a sanctuary of learning, growth, and connection to the land.
Back in Ted’s day, the term “climate change” hadn’t yet taken root in our vocabulary. Today, it’s a phrase that evokes both urgency and division—some dismiss it entirely, while others believe the end is near. But perhaps the greater truth lies between those extremes. For many, the issue feels too vast, too complex, too out of reach. And when we feel powerless, we do nothing.
But here, on these thousand acres of forest, fields, and water, we believe something different. We believe that *something* can be done—and that it begins right here. T.L. Storer doesn’t just exist for a few weeks in the summer anymore. Its mission stretches across all 52 weeks of the year, because the need is too great, and the opportunity is too powerful to waste.
We start with the ground beneath our feet—literally. The soil is our foundation. We’re learning how to heal it, how to restore its structure, its nutrients, and its ability to hold water. We’re teaching our campers how trees and grasses don’t just grow—they cool the earth, circulate water, and create life. We’re showing them that stewardship is not just theory; it’s action.
And we’re bringing that knowledge back home. Whether you live on a farm or a city block, you can be a part of this. You can capture rainwater. You can compost. You can plant native species. You can ask questions about your food—*Where did this come from? Was it raised responsibly? Is this animal a part of the solution?*
The power to change things doesn’t live in politics. It lives in our choices. And every child who learns that at T.L. Storer becomes a new root in the movement toward regeneration. Because it isn’t just the land that needs healing—it’s our belief that we *can* make a difference that must be restored too.
And so the future of T.L. Storer won’t just be about building strong scouts. It will be about cultivating *hope*. In our fields, in our classrooms, in our hands. It will weave its way through every program we offer; Day camp, Summer camp, Cow Camp and our SOAR after school program. When our campers leave here knowing they *can* do something—however small—they will carry that spark into a world that sorely needs it.
Let this place remain what it’s always been: a beacon. Not just for adventure, but for resilience. For the soil. For the future. For hope.
