Tonight Troop 42 had the pleasure of participating in the flag day ceremony for the Quincy Elks Lodge 943. The ceremony honors the flag of the United States and how it has changed over the years. Sound like we may be making this an annual event. Thanks to Ava Lopes, Nick A. , Ryan H, John M., Karina L., Ella D., Cyrus Z., Charley M., Hannah D., and Olivia G. for giving part of thier Tuesday for the ceremony.

For the third time in 2026 I had the distinct pleasure of presenting one of my scouts to their Eagle Board of Review. Tonight it was Ava Lopes' turn and as with the other two, she crushed it making the 6 member boards job very easy. Ava joins fellow scouts from Troop 42 MaryKate Megan and Lorien Ducar in the Eagle Scout class of 2026.

While I was already proud of how far Ava had come over the three years she has been in the troop, she became the first scout that I have presented to their board to quote one of my scoutsmaster's minutes in answering a question. It is one that is so near and dear to me, my scouts usually hear it twice a year - it's about how scouting is not about making eagles, it's about each scouts' journey whether they cross over at 11 years old, or join when they are 15. Congratulations Ava and keep reaching for the stars.

Back out is the woods of the summer camp I attended as a youth - Camp Resolute in Bolton. We are camping with the AOLs again to help a couple work on some AOL requirements with crossover the first weekend in May. Cubmaster Kai and Mr. Nims are in summer camp mode. Other than no sunshine to speak of, it’s a very good day to be camping. Between the pack and the troop we have over 50 scouters. Which is a good test for summer camp as we have 48 scouts planning on joining us for week 3 at Wanocksett.

Tonight it was my distinct honor to present Marykate Megan to her Eagle Scout Board of Review. I am equally proud to announce that as of tonight she is an Eagle Scout (number 68 we believe) from Troop 42 Quincy. I could tell from the moment she joined as an 11 year old in 2019 that we would be here at some point; sometimes you can just tell. From the moment she walked into the room to meet the board in arguably the best Class A field uniform I have ever seen, to her seamless answers to all the questions. Congratulations Marykate you absolutely DESERVE to be called EAGLE SCOUT.

Yesterday three of our scouts whose Eagle Court of Honor was this past Sunday - Adam Dworanski, Joel Taylor, and John Currier - were invited to the Boston City Council meeting by At Large counselor Erin Murphy to be formally recognized for their accomplishments. This was done as all of these scouts came to Troop 42 Quincy along with myself when Troop 28 Dorchester shutdown shortly after Covid. Thanks to Counselor Murphy’s Director of Communications and Community Outreach Andrew Galvin for the picture with the Boston City Council, and Troop 42 Eagle scout Maxwell Toomey for the picture from the reception that followed their Court of Honor.

Another busy scouting Sunday. This morning I was in Dedham with some scouts working on MaryKate’s Eagle Scout service project. After that I headed down I95 to Providence for the baby Bs game vs the Springfield Thunderbirds. The 42 Family presented the colors for the pregame ceremony. Despite the Bruins loosing the game, all who went seemed to have a good time.

This morning we answered the call to support the Quincy Christmas Parade along with the Girl Scouts and scouts from Troop 6 Quincy. We carried banners in front of the floats. It rained a little but our scouts pushed through. Happy Holidays everyone. Thanks to Diane Theberge and Kai Lee for most of these pictures.

Yesterday marked the 7th anniversary of Luc’s passing so it seemed like the right time to dedicate Jayson Siders’ Eagle Scout project to him. Luc was one of the first Scouts that Jayson met when he joined troop 42 and helped him feel right at home. Luc's Eagle Scout project is the outdoor classroom at the Bernazzani Elementary School; which is why Jayson chose to do an updated version at Lincoln Hancock. Just a small way for us to keep being the sunshine… even when there is none.

From the one hour a week file…. Sunday I wrapped up our November camping trip at Squanto; Monday was our PLC followed by a meeting for our trip to Washington, DC in August of 2026; Tuesday I was at the Pack meeting; Wednesday we had a couple of scouts for merit badge work and Eagle Scout service project prep; but the best part happened tonight.

Tonight I had the distinct honor of introduce Lorien Ducar to her Eagle Scout Board of Review. While I have stopped counting how many times I have done this, tonight was one of the absolute best and I am proud to announce that Troop 42 has another Eagle Scout!!! Congratulations Lorien and keep soaring.
