Tonight was another example of why I do what I do. It was my distinct honor and privilege to present Ella D. to her Eagle Scout Board of review and I'm happy to report she is officially an Eagle Scout. Ella becomes the 4th scout from Troop 42 to reach this honor this calendar year joining MaryKate Megan, Lorien Ducar, and Ava Lopes; and the first female to have crossed over from cubscouts (Pack 42 Quincy) and earn the rank of Eagle.

I have presented many scouts to their Eagle Boards and sat on countless others, but I'm hard pressed to remember a scout who's answers were so well thought out and spot on.

And because she only just recently turned 16, I get to see her continue to grow and develop as a leader.

Ella, congratulations. You absolutely deserve to be called Eagle Scout. Keep reaching for the stars.

Every summer we encourage the scouts to plan and execute a super trip for the middle of August. This year our location was Washington, DC. We drove down to Maryland on the 14th and stayed at Watkins Regional Campground. Then on Saturday we drove to the metro rail station in New Carrollton and took the orange line to the Smithsonian stop. On our trip we visited many of our countries memorials along the national mall, toured the capitol, witnessed the changing of the guard at the tomb of the unknown soldier at Arlington National Cemetary, and visited the Customs and boarder protection's air and marine base in Manassus, VA. We returned on Monday, August 17. All in all it was a great way to celebrate the 250th anniversary ou our country. Everything we did was planned by our scouts (Noa, Ava, Myles, and Miles) and supported by a great team of adults who joined me including Max Toomey, Matt Ducar, Matt Sammons, and Noel Currier.

Tonight Troop 42 had the pleasure of participating in the flag day ceremony for the Quincy Elks Lodge 943. The ceremony honors the flag of the United States and how it has changed over the years. Sound like we may be making this an annual event. Thanks to Ava Lopes, Nick A. , Ryan H, John M., Karina L., Ella D., Cyrus Z., Charley M., Hannah D., and Olivia G. for giving part of thier Tuesday for the ceremony.

For the third time in 2026 I had the distinct pleasure of presenting one of my scouts to their Eagle Board of Review. Tonight it was Ava Lopes' turn and as with the other two, she crushed it making the 6 member boards job very easy. Ava joins fellow scouts from Troop 42 MaryKate Megan and Lorien Ducar in the Eagle Scout class of 2026.

While I was already proud of how far Ava had come over the three years she has been in the troop, she became the first scout that I have presented to their board to quote one of my scoutsmaster's minutes in answering a question. It is one that is so near and dear to me, my scouts usually hear it twice a year - it's about how scouting is not about making eagles, it's about each scouts' journey whether they cross over at 11 years old, or join when they are 15. Congratulations Ava and keep reaching for the stars.

While the actual sunshine only made a casual appearance yesterday during the trip with 23 scouts from the troop camping with 19 AOLs from the pack. I can’t wait for the next trip!

Back out is the woods of the summer camp I attended as a youth - Camp Resolute in Bolton. We are camping with the AOLs again to help a couple work on some AOL requirements with crossover the first weekend in May. Cubmaster Kai and Mr. Nims are in summer camp mode. Other than no sunshine to speak of, it’s a very good day to be camping. Between the pack and the troop we have over 50 scouters. Which is a good test for summer camp as we have 48 scouts planning on joining us for week 3 at Wanocksett.
