Thank you so much to all the people who made this year's Gala reality!

We had students helping to decorate, student guides and table clearers, student raffle ticket sellers, faculty assistance, sponsors pitching in like Bunker Hill Moving, and of course our dedicated and superb custodian trio, Mr. Noble, Mr. Murphy, and Ms. Foley.

It was with the help of the Gala Committee that all of these folks came together to help create the perfect night. Thank you all so much!

This past Saturday, The Woodward School for Girls inducted three new Women of Distinction: Emily, Lynn, and Cynthia.

It was an honor to have so many past inductees there to welcome them into this group of women who have given so much to our community. Each honoree embodies Woodward’s core values of generosity, integrity, respect, responsibility, leadership, and scholarship, and together they show our students what purposeful leadership looks like.

Congratulations to Emily, Lynn, and Cynthia, and thank you to all of our Women of Distinction for their continued impact.

What an unforgettable evening at last night’s Venetian Masquerade Gala! Congratulations to our 2026 Women of Distinction: Emily Lebo, a longtime champion of Quincy’s students and a cherished member of the Woodward family; Cynthia Sierra, CEO of Manet Community Health Center; and Dr. Lynn Wooten, President of Simmons University. Each of them shows our girls what it looks like to lead with purpose and heart, and we were honored to celebrate them. Thank you to everyone who joined us and made the night so special. Each year we select three nominated women to be honored as Women of Distinction at Woodward’s Annual Gala and Women of Distinction Event. The final woman selected is a trailblazer in the South Shore, Boston, and beyond. Their work and passion makes them a role model for our students and entire community.

This year our trailblazer is the inspiring Dr. Lynn Wooten!

Lynn Perry Wooten, a seasoned academic and an expert on organizational development and transformation, is the ninth president of Simmons University and the first African American to lead the institution.

Since July 1, 2020, Dr. Wooten has spearheaded significant initiatives to shape the university's future, including Simmons Strategy 2027 – a comprehensive strategic plan focused on leveraging university assets, building a stronger financial model, and fostering a thriving campus culture. This plan includes a re-envisioning of the academic structure to create innovative educational opportunities and align programs with current student needs. It also features the Simmons Edge, an accelerated degree program that provides undergraduate students with direct career preparation and expedited pathways to graduate education. Dr. Wooten is deeply committed to ensuring that Simmons continues to provide transformative learning experiences that link passion with lifelong purpose.

Dr. Wooten came to Simmons from Cornell University. Prior to that, she served on the faculty of the University of Michigan Ross School of Business for nearly 20 years.

A resident of Brookline, Dr. Wooten is actively involved in Boston’s philanthropic and civic community, serving on a number of boards and other organizations committed to uplifting and empowering women. She is the author of nearly 30 journal articles, more than 15 book chapters, and four books, including The Prepared Leader and the Wall Street Journal bestselling co-authored book Arrive and Thrive: 7 Impactful Practices for Women Navigating Leadership.

Each year we select three nominated women to be honored as Women of Distinction at Woodward’s Annual Gala and Women of Distinction Event. One of the women selected is someone who has made an impact on our local Quincy and South Shore community. They are a leader in their field creating change and constantly working to improve the lives of others.

This year our local connection is the magnanimous Cynthia Sierra, MA!

Cynthia Sierra is the Chief Executive Officer at Manet Community Health Center. She assumed this position in January of 2016.

Throughout her tenure at Manet, she has contributed to the health center’s strategic growth and expansion in facilities, service area, coalitions, affiliations and service lines. As CEO, she has overseen the opening four (soon to be five) new primary care sites, the addition of vision, pharmacy and radiology services, as well as double digit increases in patients and visits – all with the goal of ensuring unfettered access to quality health care to patients of all ages.

Cynthia serves as a member of the Boston Medical Center Board (BMC) of Trustees; the BMC Health System/BACO Joint Operating Committee; the Board of Directors for Boston HealthNet and is the President for the Boston Accountable Care Organization (BACO) Board of Directors. She is 1st Vice Chair of the Massachusetts League of Community Health Centers Board of Directors and was she was honored as the League’s Community Health Center CEO of the Year Award in 2023. She is a member of the Board of Old Colony YMCA Wellness Services Inc. and the Sturdy Memorial Foundation Board.

Cynthia attended the University of Massachusetts and graduated with dual majors and distinction in English and Psychology. She went on to receive her master’s degree in clinical psychology at Lesley University in Cambridge. Cynthia is a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Community Health Leadership.

Her career is a testament to her belief in people and the right for health care for all. We are more than happy to celebrate all she has done for our community at this year's Gala!
