The School considers preparation for college and for life vital objectives that should occur in unison. Our teachers make learning relev

Fast Facts Friday! 🔎📝✨

Do you know what Woodward’s mascot is?

If you guessed the Woodward Wildcats, you are spot on! Everywhere they go, our student-athletes represent the proud tradition of the Wildcats. We even have an actual Wildcat mascot costume that makes special appearances at games and events, so keep an eye out because you never know when it might pop up next! 🐾⚽🏐🏀

Competing in the New England Preparatory School Athletic Council (NEPSAC), our players proudly wear Maroon and Grey in soccer, basketball, volleyball, and softball.

Most importantly, we call them student-athletes for a reason: they are students first! Every player works hard in the classroom before playing hard on the court. Our Maroon and Grey colors represent teamwork, leadership, and athletic excellence in each of our players.

Big energy, real teamwork, and incredible student leaders. Go Wildcats!

⚖️ Stepping inside the halls of justice! For our next IMPACT Learning spotlight, we are heading to the South Boston Division, Boston Municipal Court with Athena L. '29! 📜✨

Constructed back in 1912, the historic South Boston Court works to provide fair, accessible, and timely justice for all while upholding constitutional rights and treating every individual with dignity and respect.

Athena had the rare privilege of shadowing Judge Margaret Albertson, First Justice of the court, BU School of Law graduate, and a dedicated public servant who has served the legal community for 26 years! Throughout her internship, Athena got a comprehensive look behind the bench. She reviewed police reports and daily docket debriefs, and observed the inner workings of the Probation Department, the Clerk’s Office, and active courtroom proceedings. 🏛️🔎

Judge Albertson shared these inspiring words of wisdom:

"You can do and be anything you want to as long as you are willing to work hard, treat all people with respect and dignity, and understand that we are all a work in progress."

For Athena, observing the courtroom firsthand sparked a genuine passion for the legal system and gave her a deep appreciation for the value of networking, communication, and strong professional relationships.

Reflecting on her favorite part of the experience, Athena shared:

"My favorite part would be chatting with the people around me, making those connections, and viewing all the documents, police reports, and daily list reports."

She also noted why this experience made such a strong impact on her future plans:

"I find it very interesting and it's something that I find to be more appealing than any other job. I love how the court system works."

From reading case reports to connecting with court professionals, this experience opened up an exciting potential career path for Athena! We are so proud of your dedication and insight, Athena! 👏🦅

Fast Facts Friday! 🔎📝✨

Did you know one of Woodward’s 2026 graduates is heading to college as a sophomore this Fall?

That’s right! She is skipping her Freshman year because she collected enough college credits to do so through Woodward’s Dual Enrollment courses with Quincy College.

Thanks to our Dual Enrollment partnership with Quincy College, our students prepare for higher education by earning real, transferable college credits right here at Woodward.

Because these college-level courses are taught by Woodward’s own faculty, our students get the best of both worlds: rigorous, credit-bearing academics paired with the individual support and small class sizes they know and love.

By the time she put on her graduation cap, she had collected enough credits to enter college with sophomore standing. Big dreams, real results. We couldn't be prouder!

🧠 Prioritizing whole-person care and breaking ground in healthcare! For our next IMPACT Learning spotlight, we are checking in with Melanie F. ’29 and her eye-opening internship at Abelard Psychotherapy, Inc.! 🏥✨

Founded in 2007 to bridge critical gaps in psychiatric care, Abelard Psychotherapy provides counseling, medication management, and specialized in-home therapy with a mission to treat the whole person, not just their symptoms.

Melanie had the incredible privilege of working alongside and assisting the practice's founder and CEO, Dr. Gabrielle Abelard who holds a doctorate in Nurse Practice, and is an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse – Board Certified, a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing, a Fellow of the National Academies of Practice, and a Fellow of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. Over her internship, Melanie dove deep into clinical research, studying various diagnoses, medications, gender bias in healthcare, and racial disparities in medicine. 📚💡

She even completed training in HIPAA, cybersecurity, and workplace safety, shadowed sessions to observe how therapists build rapport and lead positive, client-centered care.

Dr. Abelard shared these empowering words of wisdom for anyone exploring their future:
"Find a mentor, ask questions, and dream big."

Through shadowing, Melanie gained a profound new perspective on health, realizing that mental healthcare is just as vital as physical healthcare and that there is always so much more to a person than a diagnosis.

Reflecting on her biggest personal growth moment during IMPACT, Melanie shared:

"The most important thing I learned is the importance of communication and asking questions. I had to advocate for myself... and that showed me that it never hurts to ask."

Whether Melanie chooses to pursue mental healthcare, physical medicine as a doctor or surgeon, or another path entirely, this hands-on experience gave her an invaluable foundation for the future. We are so proud of your curiosity, advocacy, and dedication, Melanie! 👏

Participation in the 1:1 Laptop Lending Program is completely optional. Current families, take a look in your email inbox for full details and signup info for the program!
