Why I’m against CRT in Quincy:

Critical Race Theory has been debated at the University level for decades and has just recently made its way to our society at large. I think as an academic endeavor it should stay in the debate halls. Basic education should remain just that, basic.

Our students and our schools should be focused on education. The Office of the Superintendent for Public Instruction (OSPI) posts the report cards for each district in Washington state. They post the number of students that passed the standardized testing results for the whole district, in 2018-2019 only 35% passed Math, Reading, and Science. I want to empower our teachers to teach, they shouldn’t be tasked with eliminating racism.

I don’t believe anyone is born “racist,” and this hyper focus on race is counter productive. The OSPI demographics show Quincy is over 80% hispanic, and 11% white, how do we benefit any of those kids by giving them any reasons to hate one another?

I want all of our kids to succeed, and to allow teachers to focus on academics.

I am seeking election as your representative on the Quincy School Board. The school district has outlined their values and expectations for student success in the “Quincy Promise,” I want to help the district meet that standard. Public school should be the home of educational fundamentals, with respect to all political affiliations. Parent’s voices have been overrun by state policy that may or may not apply to our community, parent’s rights should be represented and not ignored. Last year, sexual education was radically changed at the state level, but the district still has some say in implementation. This year, in the name of social justice, we are reshaping how we look at history and asking our children to cast blame on their peers for the inequities in our society.

This past year we’ve learned that everything we take for granted as normal can be taken away in an instant. Our children need stability and consistency, especially in the school system. Parents and teachers alike should be heard by the school board, together they are what makes our district successful. The dynamic conditions of the last year have been tough, and lessons have been learned. Most importantly we learned there isn’t a one size fits all solution. If elected I will help Quincy School District fulfill its promise, and ensure it reflects our communities values.
