First, let me say THANK YOU to every church, organization, business, and person giving back this back-to-school season. Our babies need us, and appreciate every single effort.
But this year…I want us to ask…
“What barrier can we remove before a child even walks into the classroom?”
Because truth be told… a backpack without clean clothes, deodorant, transportation, or food is still a child carrying a heavy load.
Let’s think bigger:
🧺 Laundry Support Kits – Detergent, dryer sheets, stain remover, laundry bags, laundry cards or quarters.
🪥 Hygiene Kits – Deodorant, lotion, body wash, toothpaste, toothbrushes, feminine hygiene products.
🪮 Hair Care Kits – wide-tooth combs, edge brushes, hair oil, barrettes, beads, and healthy hair products.
👕 Clothing Essentials – New socks, underwear, leggings, belts, bras? plain shirts, hoodies, sweatpants.
⏰ Attendance Barrier Kits – bus passes, ponchos, umbrellas, gloves, hats.
🍎 Teacher Emergency Drawers – Snacks, Band-Aids, wipes, tissues, lotion, pencils… because teachers spend enough of their own money already.
🥣 First-Week Snack Packs – Because it’s hard to focus on fractions when your stomach is growling.
🧠 Calm Corner Kits – Journals, crayons, fidgets, headphones, affirmation cards, play dough… because some children are carrying trauma they never asked for.
💜 Encouragement Cards – Write one. To a student. A teacher. A bus driver. A custodian. A cafeteria worker. A principal. You never know who just needs to know they’re seen.
As someone who works with families every day, I can tell you this…
Sometimes the greatest need isn’t another backpack.
It’s removing one more obstacle.
It’s restoring a little dignity.
It’s letting a child walk through those school doors knowing, “Somebody thought about ALL of me… not just my school supplies.”
We’ve been doing backpack giveaways for years…
Imagine the impact if we started giving away solutions instead.

Our children deserve more than tradition.
They deserve transformation.
