We are so sad to share the passing of Kathy Renfrew, who contributed her talent and enthusiasm to the Wade Institute as an Education Specialist. Kathy was always ready to contribute exciting ideas to our work supporting science teachers; her drive to promote science education and literacy in the elementary grades was truly inspirational. As we merged with Manomet Conservation Sciences, she dove right in to engaging with Manomet's conservation work - and excitedly shared with us her latest discoveries of children's books on shorebirds and migration. We wish we could continue this work with Kathy by our side. Our condolences to all who knew and loved Kathy - and in particular to her family and friends.

Today is World Migratory Bird Day!

At Manomet, this celebration goes straight to our roots. Studying bird migrations has been part of our DNA since our very start as the Manomet Bird Observatory in 1969. Decades later, we have expanded throughout the Western Hemisphere, following birds along their flyways from the Arctic to Tierra del Fuego.

This year's theme, ๐„๐ฏ๐ž๐ซ๐ฒ ๐๐ข๐ซ๐ ๐‚๐จ๐ฎ๐ง๐ญ๐ฌ โ€“ ๐˜๐จ๐ฎ๐ซ ๐Ž๐›๐ฌ๐ž๐ซ๐ฏ๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง๐ฌ ๐Œ๐š๐ญ๐ญ๐ž๐ซ!, is something we live by. Participatory science is one of the most powerful tools we have for understanding and protecting birds, and ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฎ๐˜ ๐—บ๐—ฒ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐˜€ ๐˜†๐—ผ๐˜‚. Classrooms can collect data - and contribute that data to eBird (ebird.org). Every observation adds to a growing picture of where birds are, how they're moving, and what they need.
