Whatever you do, DO NOT let your kids join 4H and show animals.

Your summer will be spent in the barn. You will have to spend time together and help each other. You’ll have to learn and grow together. The whole family will learn patience. You will sweat, work hard, possibly yell and overcome it all together. There will be no time for movies, Netflix, tv or tablets. You will instead have to spend time talking to each other and working through problems together like facing fears, building confidence, bracing a lamb, clipping a calf, managing a budget, learn about nutrition and respect where our food comes from.

At the end of the summer, you’ll be soo nervous watching your kids show their project. They will learn how to control their nerves in HARD situations and so will you. They will learn how to win humbly and lose graciously. Your kids will make new friends and learn skills to last them a lifetime.

In the end, you’ll all probably be sad. All the hard work you’ve done all summer is OVER. Projects are done and gone to market. You might even cry TOGETHER. Maybe it’s because you’ll miss the animals or maybe because you’ll miss the late nights together in the barn. It might even be because you are beyond proud of what you have accomplished together.

We only get 10 of these summers together in 4H - don’t waste them ❤️ 🍀

Happy Wednesday! Below are some questions and answers that have come up:

Q: Are there still Star of the Show Workouts this year?
A: ABSOLUTELY! I’m stubborn and this isn’t a dream I’m giving up anytime soon. Star of the Show attendees have changed my life and while my life has gotten even a little crazier this year (I’m not sure how that happens, but it has), I still want to connect with students across Michigan.

With that, I’m asking groups to organize on their own - structure and time will be similar focused solely on showmanship (unless we’ve made other arrangements), there is still a limit of 15 students per workout and I will come to you. Essentially I won’t be the key person in communicating the times, cost, or details. I also won’t be providing snacks/beverages/etc. All those details will be handled through your group leader(s). We also will not do the show at the end as we have in previous years unless requested by your group. The price has been significantly reduced to reflect some of these changes.

Q: Are private lessons still available?
A: YES! I still charge by the hour for one on one lessons, but I wholeheartedly believe they are still important. Please, please, please contact me if you are interested. We can make things happen!

Q: Is there still the opportunity to win a customized halter?
A: Kind of - for 2024 the requirements are still the same. Youth must win their showmanship class at any level and submit a picture to me. At the conclusion of the last county fair in Michigan we will draw 5 winners to receive customized halters. All Star of the Show Workout attendees and private lesson students who meet the above criteria are eligible to enter.
If you win a national showmanship contest I will gladly award you a customized halter!

We have 3 confirmed Workouts with 2-3 more in the works. It’s not too late to schedule today! Thank you so much for your continued support and please feel free to ask any other questions you may have.

Hey friends! Here’s what’s in store for 2024: there will not be official Star of the Show dates set. I am available for group lessons of 10-15 students. Call me, text me or email me for details. The price is right and the spirits are high! Let’s hit the road!
