I just wanted to talk a little bit about some of the other things that we do as a rescue.
Not only do we save these dogs, but we also advocate for all animals.
We get contacted about a lot of animal, cruelty and animal neglect cases that we try to look into and get law-enforcement involved.
We attend seminars and webinars and do things like humane lobby day at the capital. We talk to anyone who will listen to us about animal welfare and animal cruelty and the laws.
We work with other rescues, animal controls, shelters as well as animal welfare organizations to try to do our part in fixing this Animal crisis.
We also jump in to help other animal controls/shelters and rescues when they need it because its the right thing to do and their is power in numbers.
We give back to our community doing things like visiting the nursing homes and assisted living facilities.
We visit schools when we are invited and asked and talk about not only what we do but just general education about pets and good pet ownership. You can never start too early.
We are in the early stages of onboarding for REEL time animal rescue and partnering with them and all of the animal rescues they work with around the world. They also have an amazing education program with virtual field trips and all kinds of exciting things for the schools. We are hoping to get a lot of the local schools involved in this.
We are also in the early stages of onboarding for Vitas hospice care to become their Pawpals partner for this area. We are super excited about being able to put a smile on someone's face in their final days and letting them get some pup love. We have a couple special ladies who we do a lot with who have therapy dogs already so can get the program started alot faster.
We promote other places, pups, and work hand-in-han
I just wanted everyone to know that champs does a lot more than just have adorable puppies and pups and an amazing social media team promoting us!
We are being the change we want to see in the world!!!
I am attaching an email I sent to the Florida Veterinary Medical Association regarding something I am absolutely passionate about changing! Fingers crossed it moves forward! Our babies deserved so much better!!! Say a prayer for us!
Thank you all,
Alicia
Good morning,
My name is Alicia Bopp and I founded Champs Chance Inc. in October of 2022.
We are a grassroots dog rescue and sanctuary in Quincy Florida which is right outside of Tallahassee. It is also home to your board member, one of my biggest mentors/friends and best vet ever, Beth May.(Had to give her the recognition she deserves)
We are known for taking the dogs that absolutely Noone else wants, the hard medical cases, seniors, ones who are up for euthanasia at shelters/animal controls, ones who aren't easily adoptable just to name a few. We take them and show them the love and stability they deserve, we complete their medical, rehabilitate them and fix their broken spirits and trust with humans. We have adopted out around 800 dogs to this date fully vetted and through a rigorous adoption process to ensure the best homes.
As you know nothing in life is foolproof and a huge part of our contract is that if an owner cannot keep their dog they are to be returned to us. We also stay the primary on the chip and do not allow owners to change that. We do not take these dogs from the depths of hell and not have a lifetime commitment and attachment to them, the day they enter the rescue they become a part of our "tribe" and we take that seriously.
In the almost 4 years as a rescue we have had 3 dogs 2 and under euthanized and there could be more we don't know about. All 3 were euthanized without our knowledge or consent. Not one vet scanned them for a microchip or they would have seen we are the primary and hopefully it would have triggered them to contact us before murdering them which is essentially what they did.
I don't want to make this email super lengthy by telling their stories but I will shout it from the rooftops if I can get your backing on changing euthanasia policies to make scanning for a microchip mandatory and if the owners on the chip do not match then they do not euthanize and contact the primary on the chip.
Maisie: not even a year old when euthanized for supposedly attacking their goat. Not even through the adoption process when this was done.
Portia: two years old and owner's dad euthanized for a supposed bite on the brother but was a scratch and didn't even break the skin. This dog was euthanized by someone other than the owner and a vet did it.
Jasper: a little over a year was not getting along with other dog and was being returned to us and owner surrender had been done. Part of our return process is for the "owner" to foster and do the owner surrender form until placement can be found. Apparently we were not moving fast enough for him and he euthanized. This could become a lawsuit considering Jasper was ours legally.
These pups lives mattered and they deserve their deaths to actually have meant something. Please help us help them and know that I will be the driving force behind this, that their lives will always be remembered, that Noone will forget their faces or their names!
We love and miss them!
Thank you for taking the time to read this and I really hope that we can get FVMA on board for this.
Best,
Alicia Bopp
We were founded with the goal to help dogs with the greatest need. Dogs are often turned away from rescues or euthanized in shelters if they require too much care or medical attention. Through advocating, rehabilitating, and adoption, Champs Chance Inc aims to fill this gap in the region.
