Some stories shape a place in ways we’re still learning to understand.

Wings of the Feather River: Memory & Renewal in Maidu Country offers a deeper look at the Feather River through the perspectives of Maidu community members whose relationships to this place span generations.

Created through the Feather River Advocacy Project led by Redbud Resource Group, the film brings forward reflections on the river, the Oroville Dam, and the evolving connections between land, water, and community.

Through conversation, storytelling, and shared learning, it highlights the role of Indigenous knowledge, lived experience, and ongoing stewardship in shaping the future of the Feather River watershed.

Happy Spring Equinox from Friends of Plumas Wilderness 🌸

Across the Upper Feather River Watershed, the season is beginning to shift. Snow is slowly receding from lower elevations, rivers are rushing with snowmelt, and the first signs of green are returning to the forest floor.

Spring in the Northern Sierra unfolds gradually, from early blooms in canyon corridors to wildflower displays in higher elevations in the early summer months ahead. Migratory birds are returning, wildlife is on the move, and each day brings something new to notice.

This year, you can be part of that noticing. In celebration of 18th birthday, they’re encouraging folks to get outside and record observations between March 20–23.

Whether it’s a budding plant, a passing bird, or something small and easy to overlook, every observation helps build a better understanding of the places we care about.

If you’re heading out, we encourage you to tread lightly: stay on the trail, leave wildflowers for pollinators and others to enjoy, and give wildlife the space they need during this sensitive time.

Here’s to longer days and renewal on the landscape.

Tell us, what are you noticing out there?

This year, Friends of Plumas Wilderness has been focused on protecting and restoring the public lands that define the Upper Feather River region. From ongoing stewardship in the Bucks Lake Wilderness, to advancing our Cultivating Connectivity speaker series program, to organizing volunteer cleanups and community events, our small team has worked hard to meet the needs of the Upper Feather River Watershed. We also expanded our public lands advocacy efforts, strengthening our voice in regional planning and collaborating with partners to protect the ecological integrity of our forests and watersheds.

Grant funding helps us move restoration, education, and advocacy projects forward. But it’s your support during our year-end campaign that gives us the stability to do this work year round. Individual contributions strengthen our capacity and community partnerships, and ensure we can continue showing up for the forests, rivers, and ecosystems we care about.

As we begin our year-end campaign this , we invite you to make a gift of any amount as all gifts help directly support public lands conservation in the Northern Sierra.
