😺🤠Meow-dy friends! 😸🤠

High Desert Hounds generally sticks to focusing on helping out our k9 buds, but these little feline ladies really need your help!

Due to unforeseen and unfortunate financial and medical circumstances of their humans, these gals are on the hunt for their new family/ families. Yoshi and Muffin were adopted together in 2021 and they have never been separated, though Yoshi can get pretty sick of Muffin not being as smart as she is. They would do fine together or separate, though we prefer to try to keep ‘em paired.

Yoshi (tabby) and Muffin (calico) are incredibly sweet and love affection. While they’re both exceptionally intelligent, Yoshi is the Einstein of the two. If you are interested in meeting one or both of these kitties, please reach out directly via text at 469-644-8323 or via email at [email protected]

❤️🐾 HEY, YOU! Yeah, YOU! High Desert Hounds needs a little help from their two legged friends again…

This sweet little fella was picked up by one of the many awesome community members of Taos County at the gas station just north of Questa. He was confused and tried following them as they went to leave. They have him safe and warm for the night, but their lease agreement prohibits having him stay with them.

The lovely Sharon Borges with Run Around Dog Town Rescuers will be by to scan for a microchip tomorrow, but if owners are not found and if he was in fact dumped, he will need a safe landing spot while High Desert Hounds finds him permanent placement.

If you have the space, time and love to give, it could save a life. High Desert Hounds provides all medical & vetting, food and any necessary supplies. All he needs is a safe spot to crash while permenant arrangements are made.

Please reach out directly to me (Jen melton) at 469-644-8323 or our foster coordinator, Constance Katherine at (314) 305-0677. For the fastest response and call back times, please text. as always, many many thanks 🐾❤️

🐾Chip has an ear out for a new family to call his own. He was found wandering Arroyo Hondo in awful condition. He was infested with parasites, had multiple injuries, fleas and approximately 20 ticks on his head. Despite his condition, Chip has never lost his loving and playful demeanor.

Chip aka “Chippy” is now completely vetted and healthy. He is neutered and approx 6 month old. We believe him to be a Shar pei mix and he is currently around 30 pounds (will be a small/medium size dog). He is good with other dogs and is working on his potty training skills.

If you’d like to meet this guy or have any additional questaions, please reach out to Taylor Gwinn via Facebook messenger, or to us at High Desert Hounds via text or call at 469-644-8323 🐾

High Desert Hounds is very sad to see one of our fellow rescue groups, Gaia Sanctuary closing their doors. We could not agree more with them in regards to the animal welfare crisis depleting ALL of our local rescues…. In every way - financially, physically, mentally and emotionally.

These are two of the faces that would be suffering without small, grass roots local rescue. They are in need of placement now that we are losing such a wonderful resource with Gaia Sanctuary.

Gretel (gray pittie mix) is around 3 years old, spayed, UTD on vaccines.
Cookie (blonde) is 1.5 years old, spayed, UTD on vax.

Both are good with other dogs, cats and chickens. If you are interested in meeting both or either of these girls, please contact Cierra Amante at 575-425-1752 or [email protected].

Hey Taos county - does anyone recognize this truck? As the sun is setting and the coyotes are coming out this evening, I was on my way home from the grocery store on Old Highway 3 in Lama. As I turned the corner, the trash-bag of a human driving this vehicle was dumping these kittens into the sage brush to fend for themselves. He quickly sped off when I got out of my own truck with a less than pleasant greeting…
These kittens wouldn’t have survived the next couple of hours. Ethics aside, this is illegal. Please shoot me a PM if you know a short, skinny Hispanic male with terrible fashion sense & questionable judgement who wears a cowboy hat and drives a truck like this. Do better.

Sweet sweet sweet Hank & Bud. Since they’ve been with High Desert Hounds they’ve turned into the biggest cuddle bugs.

They are *not* currently available for adoption as there is a potential interest in them out of state, but if this falls through, they may become available.

They both do well with other dogs and children. Hank (white) is relatively low energy since he was hit by a vehicle but loves sitting with you and while gardening and going on short hikes. He gets around just fine but will most likely always have a bit of a limp. Bud loves longer hikes and is really just content getting a little love and affection. They’re going to make amazing family dogs. If you may be interested in adoption in the event that they are not leaving the state, please reach out. For the best response times, please contact us via text at 469-644-8323.
Pure love 🐾🤍🤍🤍🤍

❤️‍🩹🐾Pupdate on Astro🐾❤️‍🩹
Firstly, WOW AND THANK YOU TO ALL WHO HAVE SHOWN SUPPORT SO QUICKLY!

Astro’s surgery went wonderfully & he is resting up and healing. He is heavily medicated and currently in foster within High Desert Hounds Witness Pawtection Program due to safety concerns we have received from the public. We will not be disclosing this location or making him available for adoption at this time, but that may change in the near future.

The injuries he sustained were quite worse than we could tell by looking at him. His amputation was done at the hip & we went ahead with his neuter while he was under anesthesia. The only way we are able to help dogs like Astro is with the support and donations from the community. The animal welfare issues we have here in Taos county are daunting, and without you, this wouldn’t be possible.

When medical emergencies arise, we want to be able to assist any time we can. While Astro’s medical bills were covered amazingly fast, situations like this are disturbingly too common. High Desert Hounds is not the only local rescue doing this kind of work. We ALL need your support.

If you’re feeling extra kind and generous, please consider supporting local rescue by making a contribution to the veterinary accounts -or- by donating directly to High Desert Hounds, Taos Hound Underground, Gaia Sanctuary, Tierra Sagrada Healing & Animal Sanctuary, Run Around Dog Town Rescuers or Four Corners Animal League. If you can’t help by donating monetarily, nearly all of us desperately need fosters. With winter around the corner, we could certainly all use all the support we can get.

Again, many many many HUGE THANK YOUS to ALL who support our mission in every way, whether it’s through donations, volunteering, fostering, sharing posts, or just sending encouragement and kind words. You’re all amazing & continue to restore our faith in humanity regularly 🤍🐾.

Operation Find Fergus continues. The reward for his safe return is now upwards of $1,500. He was last seen on Sunday on the West Mesa. If you see him, PLEASE DO NOT CHASE HIM OR CALL HIS NAME as he will run. Please immediately contact one of the phone numbers on the missing poster below instead.

High Desert Hounds has ordered a drone that will be arriving on Wednesday. If he is not found by that time, we will be doing an aerial search of the area. We ask that you please do not shoot it down if this is what it comes to. We promise, we are not spying on anyone and really do not care what humans are up to out there.

Please keep an eye out and share to help bring this boy home. Many thanks.

💛🐾🌻We just wanted to pop in and post a quick update in regards to our recent lack of activity here on social media. We are handling some unexpected familial tragedies in addition to dealing with some personal obligations that are unrelated to the rescue.

High Desert Hounds is still here doing the big work and tending to the most important things - the dogs. We apologize for delays in response times regarding any incoming inquires and we appreciate the kindness that’s been extended, the support, patience & understanding while we navigate these things.

If you are experiencing a medical emergency with an animal in your care & are in need of financial assistance, please text us at 469-644-8323 with the first sentence being “911” for the quickest response times. If you are in need of dog or cat food, the best way to currently arrange a pick up with us is also via text.

Big thanks, and big love from the big guys with the big hearts (& Bud - black dog pictured here -
with the especially big head). Please stay tuned for potential adoption opportunities for these sweet and gentle fellas. 💛🐾🌻

Do you recognize this dog? He is a sweet unaltered male who was dumped on the Highway in Questa last night. Witnesses saw a red vehicle push him out on 522 near the Yoga Sala. High Desert Hounds is over capacity with puppies & medical cases. We are going to scan for a chip today, but even if he has one, we’re assuming he’s not wanted given the circumstances.
This is one of many that we wish we could assist more with in a timely manner. The calls come in several times a week for similar situations. The safety, health & quality individualized care of those we already have in rescue comes first. This is why we need fosters.
Medical care, food and general necessities are provided when you foster with us. If you have ever considered opening your home to temporarily help the homeless, unwanted and forgotten dogs of Taos Co., now is a great time. Please text or call 469-644-8323 for more information or to fill out a foster application.
If you know anything more about this guy, please reach out.
