As we reflect on another year of 98.5 WCKM's Adopt A Child program, in partnership with Operation Santa Claus, we are happy to share that we granted toy requests to nearly 1,000 local children! We couldn't have done this without multiple longstanding supporters, everyone who "adopted" a child, and several amazing volunteers who sorted and delivered the toys.
This program is hosted by the WCKM 98.5 FM radio station in Queensbury, with the help of Operation Santa Claus, which organizes and distributes the toys to the families of local children in need. Operation Santa was founded by Frank Munoff in 1974, and is "a volunteer organization in upstate New York, working with 29 school districts and child-oriented agencies in Warren, Washington, northern Saratoga and parts of Essex and Hamilton Counties to identify those needing assistance. Gifts of food and new clothing are provided to children ages infant to age 18. Each year approximately 2,500 children receive gifts. Operation Santa Claus is dedicated to 'Making a brighter Christmas for the area's underprivileged children'. It is our goal to raise the self-esteem of these children by providing them with new clothing. When asked what they received for Christmas they no longer avoid the question but smile and tell or show what they received. It is with these unknown smiles that Operation Santa Claus has continued its efforts.”
