HTDR is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that gives second chances to dachshunds and dachshund mixes.

To be a Happy Tails dachshund means entering a safe foster home, receiving full vet care and being carefully placed in the best next home for that dog’s needs. Happy Tails Dachshund Rescue is a non-profit organization consisting of dedicated rescue volunteers who love the Dachshund dog breed. Our mission is to save as many Doxies from euthanasia, abuse, or abandonment and to adopt them into as many loving, forever homes as we can!

At 10 years young, Penny has been stealing hearts while working hard on her weight-loss journey! From settling into her foster home to making healthier choices one paw at a time, this little lady has so much to celebrate!
While Penny is NOT available for adoption, she is absolutely available for compliments, love, and a little celebrity treatment! ⭐🐾
And tomorrow, YOU get the chance to meet this precious girl in person! 🐶💗

🐾🌭 MEET SAL — YOUR FUTURE LITTLE BEST FRIEND! 💙
Guess who’s coming to the Arizona Wild Weens Fest ?🎉
Sweet Sal will be joining us, and he’s officially UP FOR ADOPTION! 🏡❤️
🐶 8 months old | 12 lbs | Male
Sal is a gentle, loving little boy who’s still learning that the world isn’t such a scary place. He may be shy when you first meet him, but give him some patience and love, and you’ll discover the sweetest little companion! 🥹💕

🐾 Loves toys, especially chew toys!
🐾 Does well with other small dogs and kids.
🐾 Walks on a leash like a good boy.
🐾 Loves snuggling once he feels comfortable.
🐾 Still working on potty training and building confidence.
🐾 Would thrive in a calm, patient home with someone around often.
Sal isn’t looking for perfection. He’s looking for someone willing to give him the time, love, and reassurance he deserves. 💙

✨ WINNIE WEDNESDAY WEIGH-IN ✨
Our girl Winnie has officially hit 33.92 lbs! 🥹💗
When Winnie started her journey, she weighed 46.45 lbs, which means she has officially lost 12.53 lbs! 🎉 That’s about 27% of her starting body weight!
Week by week, Winnie continues to make progress, and we couldn’t be prouder of her. 🐾 She’s proof that little changes, consistency, and lots of love can add up to BIG results. 💕
And this week is extra special because our little weight-loss queen is getting ready for her celebrity guest appearance at Arizona Wild Weens Fest! 🤠🌵🌭 Winnie has been working hard on that festival figure. 😂✨
Starting weight: 46.45 lbs
Current weight: 33.92 lbs
Total lost: 12.53 lbs! 🎉

Adoption spotlight !!
Meet Raven 🐾💕
Raven is an adorable 8-year-old, 12 lb little shadow who wants nothing more than to be wherever her person is. 🥹 She loves cuddling, playing with other dogs, and following her favorite humans from room to room.
Raven is house trained, does well with other dogs and older, calmer kids, and would thrive with someone who is home often. She does have a history of IVDD, so her forever family will need to continue her at-home physical therapy and be mindful of her activity but with the right care, this sweet girl has so much love to give. ❤️

🦷❤️ TOBY UPDATE! ❤️🦷
Remember Toby? This sweet former breeder dog came to HTDR desperately needing an extensive dental—and thanks to your support, we were able to get him the care he needed.
Today, Toby has a clean, healthy mouth… just with a few fewer teeth! 😁 And he is looking and feeling GREAT!
Now that the medical part is behind him, Toby is working on his next chapter: learning some manners, boundaries, and what life as a loved family dog is all about. After spending his earlier years as a breeder dog, there are still a few things he needs to learn before we feel he’s ready for his forever home.
For now, he’s getting healthier, happier and more confident every day. We can’t wait to see what’s next for this handsome boy. ❤️🐾
Thank you to everyone who donated toward Toby’s dental and helped give him this fresh start!

🐾 HTDR Alumni Update: Carlos! 🐾
Even the strongest fosters do this thing we refer to as “foster fail”. This story is a very special one of a dog that didn’t seem to know how to be a dog or how to trust a human. Enjoy this very special update from his mom:
“Chaos, the adorable mini pibald, came to us 2 years ago as a foster. We immediately changed his name to Carlos. As a past breeder dog, he was not socialized and extremely fearful. I was told he was not food motivated, did not leave the couch & never wagged his tail in the previous foster home and that he would be my biggest challenge to date as a foster. Carlos arrived and when introduced to my 3 other dachshunds who welcomed him with tail wags he too wagged his tail with excitement and quickly engaged in play! I included the video of that day because it brought me to tears. At last, he felt happy to be with a pack of dachshunds. In that moment I had an inkling that Carlos may never leave 😉.
At first, Carlos was too terrified to eat with the other dogs but it did not take long before I was able to integrate him at feeding time. He soon became food motivated and that helped with some training. While he fits with our dogs like a puzzle piece, our biggest challenge has been Carlos’s lack of trust of humans. It has been a very slow process but he has bonded with my husband. He shows very submissive loving behavior with him like biting his nose and wrapping himself around him like a scarf! The rest of us in the family are quite jealous! He does allow me to harness him and has finally become more affectionate with me—usually when I’m eating a meal. I’m safe when food is involved! Haha! When he’s not obsessing over my husband he is with Dixie our Queen Ween. They have become inseparable. Carlos has been our most challenging dog and yet our most rewarding. He is a work in progress and we love him dearly♥️”
Carlos is so lucky to found his pack! Thank you for providing such a wonderful and loving home to a dog that needed patience and just that—Love!

Happy Tails Dachshund Rescue had 20 adoptions in July and August 2026! We celebrated 12 adoptions in July and 8 adoptions in August.

JULY ADOPTIONS

On July 1, Thor was adopted.

On July 7, Frankie found his forever home.

On July 8, Jaxson, Jacqueline, and Green Bean were adopted.

On July 11, Stacy and Cinnamon were adopted together.

On July 18, Charlie was adopted.

On July 23, Rosebud NKA Penny, Phoenix, and Dawn NKA Ryann were adopted.

On July 29, Brinkley found her forever home.

AUGUST ADOPTIONS

On August 5, Bubbles was adopted.

On August 8, Teddy, Brody, Bruno, and Honey and Bear were adopted.

On August 26, Ryder was adopted.

On August 27, Gladys found her forever home.

We are incredibly grateful to all of the foster families who opened their homes and hearts to these fur babies and helped prepare them for their new lives. Your love, patience, and dedication made these happy endings possible!

🐾💕 TRIM-DOWN TUESDAY: PENNY! 💕🐾
Look who’s making progress! Our sweet Penny is officially down to 32.89 lbs! 🎉
Penny has settled beautifully into her foster home and is doing GREAT. ❤️ She’s getting comfortable with her new routine, soaking up the love, and—most importantly—continuing her journey toward a healthier weight.
At 10 years young, Penny still has quite a transformation ahead of her, but we’re celebrating every ounce, every milestone and every healthy choice along the way. 💪🐾
Today’s weigh-in: 32.89 lbs ⚖️
Way to go, Penny! Keep cheering on our little lady as she trims down one Tuesday at a time! 💗.
