QRF BOARD OF DIRECTORS ROLL CALL

Lauren Arroyos, US Army
Director of Outreach, QRF

My name is Lauren Arroyos and I currently live in El Paso, TX with my two sons. I am the CEO and founder of The Alice Pack, a company that assists veterans with obtaining disability compensation. I have a passion for working with veterans and serving our veteran community. In the past year I have helped over 100 veterans enroll in the VA Health care system who were not receiving care.

I grew up in Houston, TX and left for the Army at 18, following in my brothers’ footsteps. I served as an MP for 4 years with a deployment to Iraq. Soon after leaving the service, I worked for the Federal Bureau of Prisons and later
transferred to work for the VA Benefits Administration in Phoenix, AZ.

While living in Phoenix I started getting involved in strength training, which helped my mental health massively. I started competing in powerlifting through to get the guidance, camaraderie and purpose I had been missing. I continue to have a passion for strength sports and serve as an advocate for disabled veterans wanting to compete.

When I’m not working, I enjoy spending time with my sons and exploring the outdoors. I am fortunate to have the job that I do, which allows me to travel with my kids to meet veterans all over the US. It is my hope and mission to continue to assist veterans at whatever capacity I can.

QRF BOARD OF DIRECTORS ROLL CALL

Chris Phillips, US Army
Founder, Chair of QRF

How QRF started involves two stories. The first took place in 2020 when a Team Member I mentored took his own life after he served in the Army. When he took his own life it brought back tons of memories of fallen comrades that had done the same on our homefront, not overseas.

15 soldiers that were to my left and right of our formations. I just thought that was crazy. Our friends said it was the 4-17 curse.

In 2015 I had my whole career planned when I made SSG. I finished Pre-Ranger school and was scheduled to go to Ranger in July/August timeframe. (Yeah Pre-Ranger to go Ranger, another great Army oxymoron 🙄). I was getting my Squad ready and collapsed out of nowhere. From there I was told to go to the ER and no one knew what really happened. I had to have a heart monitor on after that and after three days I had to report to a Cardiologist first thing Monday morning. Little did I know my life was going to completely change.

I was told I had to get a Pacemaker since my heart was randomly stopping for 3-5 seconds (AV Block). Within 3 months I was forced to retire. By that September, I was at my worst state of drinking liquor and taking whatever the VA wanted to give me for pills, which were mainly sleeping and antidepressants. One night I got into my own head and decided to try and take my life. Next thing you know I had a night terror that woke my friend up in the other room and when he saw the empty pill bottle he went into action by making me throw everything up.

Thank God his wife was a RN to give him steps on everything to do and there was a medic down the road to give me some IV fluids. So for me QRF is one of the most important things. I am so glad to have the support to make this nationwide and to help as many veterans as we can. I just wanted to share my story to tell you what made QRF and how fitness is one of the biggest reasons I am not in that mindset anymore.

Thank you to all of you who support via donations or by sharing our story. Every bit helps us find communities for vets to be a part of.
