THE FLASH FLOOD: Turn a Rush Into Results

The Sonoran Desert doesn’t get much rain β€” but when it comes, nothing is wasted. Desert plants have spent centuries learning to soak it up fast, store it, and thrive long after the wash runs dry.

Quartzsite businesses run on the same rhythm. The season is short. The rush is real. And the businesses that make it last are the ones that prepare like the desert does β€” quietly, patiently, and with a plan.

Before the season hits:
βœ… Pull last season’s sales numbers β€” order stock and schedule staff now
βœ… Update your Google Business Profile with current hours, photos, and services β€” snowbirds search before arriving
βœ… Stock up on business cards and flyers β€” visitors love a handout

During the rush:
βœ… Post your hours clearly on Facebook and your door β€” seasonal visitors don’t know your routine
βœ… Ask every happy customer to leave a Google review β€” make it easy with a QR code
βœ… Make sure you can take cards, tap-to-pay, and mobile payments β€” travelers rarely carry cash

The desert doesn’t waste a drop of rain. Neither should you. πŸ’›

πŸŒ΅β˜€οΈ To Our Beloved Snowbirds β€” Thank You!

Whether you’re parked at one of our RV resorts or out on the open BLM land, you are the heartbeat of Quartzsite every winter β€” and we mean that.

To everyone who follows us online through the summer months and counts down the days until you can point your rig back toward the desert β€” we see you, and we are so grateful for you.

You fill our streets, support our local businesses, and bring an energy to Quartzsite that we carry with us all year long. From our popular shows and markets to wide-open trails for your side-by-sides and ATVs, and evenings around the campfire under a sky full of stars β€” you make this place come alive.

Our little town may be small, but the love we have for our snowbird family is anything but. πŸ’›

We can’t wait to see you again this winter! 🏜️🚐

πŸͺ We all know camels have a special place in Quartzsite history. But did you know about the RED camel?

Quartzsite has always drawn visitors for our gems, our markets, and our one-of-a-kind desert character. But our history runs deeper and stranger than most people realize β€” and that’s exactly what keeps people coming back.

Meet the Red Ghost.

In 1883, reports spread across Arizona of a massive reddish camel roaming wild through the desert β€” and according to multiple witnesses, it appeared to have a human skeleton strapped to its back. Miners chasing it along the Verde River claimed something fell from the animal that looked chillingly like a human skull. Legend has it the Red Ghost terrorized the territory for nearly a decade.

When a farmer finally shot it in 1893, no skeleton was found β€” but the rawhide straps were real, dug so deeply into the camel’s flesh they left permanent scars. Someone had tied something to that animal. The rest remains a mystery to this day.

The camel was almost certainly a straggler from Hi Jolly’s own herd, released right here in our backyard when the government abandoned the Camel Corps.

The legend lives on in Quartzsite today β€” say hello to Georgette, our beloved red scrap metal camel at Gem World just off I-10. Made from tire rims, a motorcycle gas tank, and automobile tie rods, she’s worth a stop and a photo (when Gem World opens again in the fall)! πŸ“Έ

This is Quartzsite. The history is as wild as the desert.🌡

THE SAGUARO: Build Something That Lasts

The saguaro cactus takes ~75 years to grow its first arm β€” and lives for ~200. It doesn’t rush. It doesn’t compete. It puts down deep roots, weathers every storm, and eventually becomes a landmark that defines the landscape around it.

Sound familiar? The businesses in Quartzsite have chosen to build in one of the most extraordinary markets in America. A town that swells from a few thousand to hundreds of thousands β€” and back again. That takes grit, patience, and a commitment to your roots.

Our tip to you: Before you chase new customers or expand what you offer, make sure your foundation is unshakeable:

βœ… A fully updated Google Business Profile with current hours and photos
βœ… An active Facebook Business Page β€” in Quartzsite, Facebook is the town square
βœ… A simple website so travelers can find you before they arrive
βœ… A way to stay connected with returning snowbirds β€” they come back for businesses that make them feel remembered

🌱 Free Resources to Get Started:
πŸ”— Google Business Profile: business.google.com
πŸ”— Facebook Business Page: www.facebook.com/pages/create
πŸ”— Free website builder: www.squarespace.com or www.wix.com
πŸ”— Free email marketing: www.mailchimp.com (up to 500 contacts free)

The saguaro doesn’t hurry. It just never stops growing. Neither should you.
