The Prince William County Model Railroad Club (PWMRC) is an organization tasked with the purpose of promoting the hobby of model railroading, educating the public in the hobby of model railroading, and providing members a forum to learn and participate in model railroading. This is accomplished through two main outlets:
The PWMRC and its members have an HO scale modular layout, that is never the
same layout twice, that it takes to shows near and far, including the Manassas Railfest each June and shows at three of the Prince William County Library System's libraries each fall - Central, Bull Run and Chinn. (The Club had also had layouts at Potomac in the past as well but the last was in 2005). Every Spring, the Club joins with two other local clubs and Boy Scout Troop 964 for a huge layout at the Troop's annual train show at Saunders Middle School. The PWMRC has a permanent layout in the South Room of the Ex-Richmond, Fredericksburg and Potomac passenger station at Quantico, Virginia, located at 550 Railroad Ave in the Town of Quantico, Virginia. This layout houses monthly open houses on the first Saturday of every month, the USMC birthday each year, November 10th, no matter which day it falls, the day of the Quantico Christmas Parade, and usually every Saturday in December. Using the skills and expertise within our club, we enjoy a layout that is fun for our members and an attraction for visitors. The Town of Quantico, Virginia is on the west bank of the Potomac River approximately 35 miles south of Washington, DC. With one side of the Town bordered by the river, the other three sides are bordered by the Marine Corps Base of Quantico, thus the Town is surrounded by the Marine Corps Base. The Quantico Depot is on the CSX RF&P Subdivision which also is used by the Virginia Railway Express and Amtrak. Dozens of trains pass the Depot each day with thousands of commuters using VRE to get to Alexandria, Arlington and Washington.. As we build our layout, we will tell the story here on our web site. Check back often as we build the layout of our dreams at in the Historic Quantico Depot. Membership is open to anyone with an interest in trains upon payment of Dues. Although we have an HO scale modular layout and an HO scale permanent layout, there are model railroaders of other scales in our midst, and any are welcome.
