The wonderful rain has made the plants and weeds grow. If you can volunteer some time removing weeds it would be appreciated. Now is the time because the ground is soft and the weeds are small🌱👨‍🌾😊

Our favorite farmer has planted the garden. This year’s crop will be black eyed peas, zucchini, yellow squash, okra, watermelon, and cantaloupe. If you’re new to the community, the garden is on the north side of the road, 1/2 mile from Panhandle Compress. The garden is provided for all of Quanah to harvest and enjoy. The only asks are that you help with weeding, remove spent produce from the plants, and pick only what you and your family can enjoy. Updates will be provided as produce becomes ready.

Heat has stressed the garden but it hasn’t stopped the grasshoppers! Peas are starting to form; okra is slowly producing; there are several small cantaloupe and melons but nothing ready to harvest. The squash plants are severely stressed. We need a good rain and cooler temps!!

Thank you Lisa Alcantar, Carlene Von Tungeln, Shawn Reinhardt, and Donnita Powell for spending your morning hoeing weeds!!!

06/27/2023

There will be a small group of volunteers weeding the garden tomorrow starting at 7:00 a.m. You’re invited to join us! We’ll work for an hour or two. Bring your hoe, gloves, and water!(6/28)

Lisa and Carlene are taking advantage of the cooler weather this morning to hoe some weeds. Thank you, ladies!!

The garden was planted May 18th, and while the rain has been wonderful, the careless weeds have made a huge showing among the vegetables! The farmer cultivated between the rows yesterday, but there is a huge need for volunteers to pull weeds in the rows while it’s still a manageable chore. This year’s garden is located on the north side of the road and in the field west of last year’s garden.
