ArcheWild is building a 130 acre riparian buffer over the next few years. Several decades of Reed canary thatch needed removed and burning seemed the best option. DCNR burned the meadow for us. Now it's our turn.

Checking in on the reed canary grass at Little Pine. It's doing very well after a low-intensity burn, but almost no natives sprung up. There weren't many to begin with, but we wanted to remove the thatch to see what might recover. We're ready to proceed to a fill RCG control program ahead of its restoration over the next few years.

Worked on a meadow enhancement project this week. Botanical survey, ecological analysis, and invasive control. Species introductions in a couple of weeks.

Week two walk-through of a 3-year meadow building process at Trexler Nature Preserve.

We'll try to document the entire process so that you can follow along.

Not a big meadow, only about 50-60 acres, but it's going to be challenging. Really bad invasives, and a difficult site for native meadow species. This is going to be a very technical process.
