Communities In Schools of Puyallup is an affiliate in the nation’s largest and leading dropout prevention organization. Our goal is to ensure that all students in Puyallup, Washington are equipped with the resources and support they need to stay in school and succeed in life. Our organization works within the public school system, working closely with the school staff to identify student needs. By

establishing connections and coordinating the resources of diverse community partners-local businesses, social service agencies, health care providers, and parent and volunteer organizations-we are able to provide and broker programs and services essential to student success.

☀️🍎 Free Summer Food Help is Here for Kids in Washington! 🍎☀️
Families in Washington State—did you know there’s extra help available to keep your kids nourished while school is out?

Introducing SUN Bucks (Summer EBT)—a program designed to help families buy food for school-aged children during the summer months.

✅ What is SUN Bucks?
SUN Bucks provides $120 per eligible child to help cover the cost of groceries when school meals aren’t available.

✅ Who can get it?
Your child may qualify if they:

Receive free or reduced-price school meals, OR
Are in a household that gets benefits like SNAP, TANF, or FDPIR, OR
Attend a school that offers free meals to all students

Many families are automatically enrolled—no application needed! If your student is not enrolled, you can sign them up here: https://sunbucks.dshs.wa.gov/en/

✅ How does it work?
Benefits are loaded onto an EBT card (or added to your existing one)
Funds can be used just like SNAP to buy groceries
Helps stretch your food budget all summer long 🍓🥪

✅ When will families receive benefits?
SUN Bucks are typically issued in summer, helping cover meals when school is out.

We’re excited to share that this summer Feeding Feasible Feasts , Communities In Schools of Puyallup, City of Puyallup Parks & Recreation, the South Hill Mall, and a number of other community partners are joining forces to help ensure kids in our community have access to nutritious meals!

A huge thank-you to Feeding Feasible Feasts for providing lunches for our students—your support makes a meaningful difference. We’re also incredibly grateful to Puyallup Parks & Recreation and South Hill Mall for offering welcoming locations that help us connect with and serve more youth across our community.

🌟 Future Leaders in Action at Karshner Elementary! 🌟

Yesterday, our 6th grade students at Karshner Elementary wrapped up their Student Leadership Presentation Series with an inspiring final session led by our amazing Board Director, Karissa from Red Canoe Credit Union.

Students shared lunch while learning what it means to step into leadership next year, even as the youngest students in junior high. From building confidence to modeling positive behavior, they gained valuable tools to lead with integrity and purpose.

A special shoutout to Mrs. Trott, our CIS Site Coordinator at Karshner, and Ms. Broxholm, Karshner’s SEL TOSA, for their instrumental work in supporting and growing our leadership students. Your dedication makes a lasting impact!

We are so proud of our students for their engagement and enthusiasm throughout this series, and incredibly grateful to Karissa and Red Canoe Credit Union for investing in our future leaders!

We had an incredible time today at the Puyallup School District’s first-ever ¡Adelante! Student Leadership Summit!

Students were challenged with a real-world problem, and what happened next was nothing short of inspiring. Working in teams, they brainstormed, collaborated, and built innovative solutions before pitching their ideas to a panel of judges. Think Shark Tank…but driven by student passion and powered by a commitment to making our community better.

The creativity, teamwork, and bold thinking on display were amazing to witness. These students didn’t just imagine change; they took action and brought their ideas to life.

Let’s be clear: these aren’t just future leaders…they’re leaders right now, already making a meaningful impact.

This summer, Feeding Feasible Feasts is providing free, nutritious lunches for students across Puyallup! Communities In Schools of Puyallup is proud to partner with the South Sound Hunger Task Force and other incredible organizations to support students and families all summer long.

What to expect:

✅ A welcoming space to connect and thrive
