37 years ago, Dr. Gordy Klatt stepped on to a track, right her in Tacoma Washington. His goal, to raise funds to support our local American Cancer Society. One step at a time, one donor at a time, he did just that. 24 hours, 83 miles, and $27,000 later the idea that would grow into Relay For Life was born.
We lost Dr. Klatt in August of 2014, after his own personal battle with cancer, but we didn't lose the spirit of Relay. Relay lives on in each of us who make the ask, raise the money, and step out onto that track to celebrate, remember, and fight back. If you ever thought YOU couldn't make a difference, think again.
Dr. Klatt was one person with an idea. He made many asks and assembled a group of people that made Relay what it is today. You can do the same. Individuals coming together with a common goal, to raise the funds that will finish the fight have culminated in 6.5 billion dollars raised to date and countless lives saved.
Be proud...you are part of the history of Relay For Life and you will be a BIG part of ending cancer. If you have yet to sign up to Relay with us on Saturday, do so today. TacomaRelay.org
