Many are purchasing "homes" using priorities of proximity to schools for their children and employment. This is rational. Observe how small the land is around the home; less than 9 feet to the neighbors or a back yard sometimes fifty feet deep but frequently less than twenty feet. Do not be disheartened. Although there may be HOA regulations about the ornamental plantings for the front yard, consider plantings in the back yard that are native plants, even producing a "wild:" environment. We, each, are Stewards of the land we purchased. Investigate and apply native planting strategies, for wildness, for native habitat for native species of plants, trees, creatures big and small. To purchase a "home" is to purchase the responsibility of Stewardship for the land. The "home" will eventually decompose, but if you create a native habitat, the memory of your Love for Nature will survive the structure you purchased.
