We had the opportunity to welcome two visiting firefighters from Australia to Station 72 yesterday.

Firefighters Christopher Hayward and Joel Port with the New South Wales Rural Fire Service are two of more than 350 firefighters from Australia and New Zealand who have traveled to the U.S. to support wildfire response efforts.

Christopher and Joel recently completed a 14-day assignment on the Little Giant Fire and are spending their rest cycle in the Puyallup area before receiving their next 14-day assignment.

We currently have a Captain/Paramedic deployed as a line medic on the Little Giant Fire, making it especially meaningful to connect with two of the international firefighters who supported the same incident.

We appreciated the opportunity to visit with Christopher and Joel, learn more about their experience, and share a little about Central Pierce Fire & Rescue.

After dropping off a patient at St. Clare Hospital in Lakewood, a few of our crews got the chance to see the Vince Lombardi Trophy up close!

The trophy is making its way around the region as part of the Seattle Seahawks’ official Trophy Tour, celebrating their Super Bowl LX Championship and giving 12s across the Pacific Northwest a chance to see a piece of Seattle Seahawks history.

Not a bad way to finish up a transport.

What a run for the Northwest Region!

Although their Little League World Series journey came to an end yesterday, we couldn’t be prouder of Washington’s own SoundView Little League and our member, Manager Kyle Yarbrough, for the way they represented our community on the biggest stage in Little League Baseball.

Before yesterday’s game, Kyle and his son, catcher Evan Yarbrough, took a moment to visit the marker honoring Michael Cammarata, who played in the 1991 Little League World Series before later becoming a New York City firefighter. Michael made the ultimate sacrifice on September 11, 2001, responding to the attacks as a member of the FDNY.

For Kyle, a firefighter himself, and Evan, who hopes to one day follow in his dad’s footsteps into the fire service, it was a pretty special moment connecting two generations through baseball and the fire service.

Congratulations to Kyle, Evan, and the entire Soundview team on an incredible season. From Washington State Champions to representing the Northwest Region in Williamsport, you gave our entire community something to be proud of.

Hold your heads high, boys. What a ride.

Our members were out on South Hill collecting donations for the Muscular Dystrophy Association, and in just a few hours, you helped us raise more than $8,000!

100% of the money raised through Fill the Boot goes directly to MDA, helping send local kids to summer camp and providing critical resources and support for individuals and families living with neuromuscular diseases.

We’re incredibly grateful for the generosity our community continues to show. We are proud to serve you, and even prouder to see our community come together for such an important cause.

This team works behind the scenes supplying all of our stations so that we remain equipped and ready to serve our community.

Not every role in the fire service is on a fire engine or medic unit, but every role makes a difference.

Behind the scenes, our Central Stores team works every day to keep district operations running smoothly.

Together, this team manages shipping and receiving, purchasing, warehousing, and all aspects of inventory needed for daily emergency operations. They deliver essential supplies to our fire stations and support offices across 178 square miles.

Thank you for keeping our crews equipped, prepared, and ready to serve!

Throughout this summer, our members have been called upon several times to assist communities across Washington and beyond. Each deployment means leaving family, home, and their regular crews behind to go wherever help is needed.

Most recently, members deployed to the Sinlahekin Fire near Tonasket.

The Sinlahekin incident proved to be an incredibly challenging and complex assignment. During rapidly changing fire conditions, our members were faced with difficult decisions, including assisting civilians trapped in their home while fire surrounded the area. What could have had a very different outcome was met with strong communication, training, teamwork, and crews reacting exactly as needed.

We’re incredibly proud of our members and who continue to answer the call when communities need additional help.

Members of the Pierce County Firefighters Executive Board are in Arlington, Texas, this week representing Local 726 at the 58th International Association of Fire Fighters Convention.

Every two years, delegates from across the United States and Canada come together to debate resolutions, establish priorities, and help set the direction of our International. Our Executive Board members were proud to take part in that process, including speaking from the convention floor on several important resolutions.

One of those was Resolution 22, which created a new IAFF Executive Leadership Program modeled after the successful Executive Leadership Series developed in the Ricky Walsh - IAFF 7th District.

Resolution 22 was amended on the convention floor to officially name it the Ricky J. Walsh Executive Leadership Program and was unanimously adopted by the delegates.

Six of our Local 726 members have had the opportunity to complete the 7th District Executive Leadership Series and have experienced firsthand the impact of this transformational program.

What started as Ricky’s vision to develop the next generation of labor leaders will now expand across the IAFF. Thank you, Ricky, for everything you’ve done for the labor movement, the fire service, and the families impacted by the IAFF.

Today, Friday, August 7, Pierce County Firefighters will be at 112th Street & Pacific Avenue holding the boot to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

For more than 70 years, firefighters across the country have partnered with MDA to fund life-changing research, support families, and strengthen communities impacted by neuromuscular diseases.

Continuing the trend of our members making a difference off duty...

Today we're recognizing Kyle Yarbrough, Head Coach of the SoundView Little League All-Star team.

Over the past three years, Kyle has led this incredible group of young athletes on an unforgettable journey, culminating this season with a Washington State Little League Championship.

The team is now headed to San Bernardino, California, where they'll represent Washington in the Northwest Region Tournament with the opportunity to continue their journey all the way to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

Their first game is Saturday, August 8, at 9:00 a.m. (PT) against Idaho, and the game will be streamed live on ESPN+.

Congratulations to Kyle, the players, coaches, and families of SoundView Little League. Your Pierce County firefighting family will be cheering you on as you represent Washington on the regional stage. Best of luck!
