Postal boxes continue to get broken into in Stonegate. This past week, we got word from a neighbor that a bill that they put in the outgoing mail slot of their box, had the check stolen and fraudulently cashed. For the time being, we advise residents not to use the outgoing mail slots on our boxes. It is up the USPS to change the locks on these, since it is their key/lock combos that have been compromised.. BUT it is also the outgoing mail slot boxes that seem to be getting popped open by thieves as well. We realize this is an inconvenience for everyone, especially those with mobility issues that can't drive to the post office to safely mail items away. If someone needs help having items dropped in a safe mailbox, please send a message to this page. I (Chris Swanson) will do my best to help. Thanks

UPDATE on the new neighborhood going in behind/to the northeast of Stonegate.

It appears the new development will be built soon behind Stonegate after nearly 8 years of applications and environmental arguments. "Sunset Pointe" was approved by the City of Puyallup planning department and will be approved by the Hearing Examiner following today's public hearing at City Hall.

10 of their 18 Lots/houses (55%) will have to come through Stonegate to access their neighborhood. I went to the meeting Wednesday in person, and asked that the City install either stop signs or yield signs at the intersections of:
22nd Street SE & 22nd Avenue SE (the bottom of the small hill you drive down when you come in the main entrance of Stonegate) and;
the intersection of 22nd Avenue Court SE and 22nd Avenue SE (the small road that connects the 'dual cul-de-sacs' in the easternmost portion of Stonegate to the rest of our neighborhood) which is about 6 houses down from our playpark.

The City was NOT required to do a Traffic Mitigation Study because the new development isn't big enough to legally force one to be done, so the City didn't. In short, they say there won't be enough extra cars going in/out/through Stonegate to warrant a study or any signs. Disappointing, because they City *could* force the developer to pay for these (instead of us taxpayers) but is basically choosing not to.

It has been the position of the Stonegate HOA Board in the past, that these two intersections ALREADY needed either Yield or Stop signs BEFORE this development was unveiled. Now we need it more, but the City is essentially saying no.

The remaining 8 lots of Sunset Pointe will access their neighborhood from 19th Avenue SE which is the road that is the northernmost border of Stonegate. The City says 21st Street SE (the very steep road with the barriers) will not be reopened. My belief is that it will someday, but only if a developer pays for the necessary widening and upgrades needed. That's probably 20-30 years away.. if ever.

Hey everyone, reminder to pick up dog p**p when you're walking your dog. Bags aren't expensive, the effort is not tough. This is one of those 'once again' reminders, that shouldn't have to be a reminder, but somehow is... again. Thanks.

Hey folks, I realize there's only one more day until kids are out of school for Christmas break.. however, when they go back in January it will still be getting dark early. I say this because I've noticed the elementary school busses dropping kids off as it's starting to get dark sometimes as late as 4:25pm (most elementary schools dismiss at 3:51pm). I have seen some cars driving 30 or 35mph down the roads in Stonegate during these times that busses drop kids off. Please slow down and watch for kids, adults, and pets. There is no posted speed limit in Stonegate, so it defaults to 25mph which is the legal limit in the city where there are no limits posted. Thanks, Stonegate HOA

Halloween reminder/fence update: Been a number of questions about the perimeter fence along 23rd ave and 17th st. Ember Fence will be out in a few weeks to make repairs to rails and posts. ALSO.. with Halloween being Friday night, just a reminder to please drive slow and careful thru Stonegate (and everywhere) as there is expected to be a good number of kids out, even if it's raining. Also, if you are not giving out candy.. it's recommended that you turn your front lights off completely so as to not attract kids looking for candy. Thanks, Chris Swanson - Stonegate HOA.

You've heard some the booms already, so you know what's coming Friday... The 4th of July! Here in Stonegate we also mark the occasion with our own celebrations. Attention residents! Late Thursday/early Friday there was a major parts theft on a vehicle near the park. Thieves took both rear tires, a taillight, and a tailgate from this truck parked on the street. They left the jack underneath the front which makes us think the theft might've been unknowingly interrupted, or something/someone spooked the thieves off and they left in a hurry. If you saw anything odd Thursday night or early Friday morning, please contact us. I'll get you in touch with the owner who has reported this to Puyallup PD and has a case number. Thanks, Chris Swanson - Stonegate HOA Board
