Greetings from the WSSO board! We know many of you are asking if WSSO is still an organization. You may be asking this question because you have not heard from us, received information about the conference, or went to the website and found it is not there. The answer is, yes, we are still an organization.

We would like to take a minute and address some common questions:

1. Is WSSO holding the annual conference?
No, we will not be holding an in-person conference. This was a difficult decision for the WSSO board. We recognize that several agencies are facing budget impacts and staffing impacts. We will be hosting several online training sessions starting in October. More information to come.

2. What happened to the WSSO website?
The WSSO website is being updated and will continue to be offline while we complete the update.

3. Are there still open WSSO Board Positions?
We are accepting applications for our treasure and other at large positions. If you are interested in serving as a WSSO board member please e-mail us at [email protected].

4. Is the Washington School Safety Organization still operating?
Yes! WSSO board members have faced some professional and personal challenges. We as a board needed to prioritize these needs and that has resulted in taking a step back from WSSO activities. As a reminder the WSSO board positions are unpaid voluntary positions.

The WSSO board would like to announce that we will not be holding an in-person conference in 2024. This was not an easy decision for the board to make. We know that networking and professional development are of great value to each one of you.

We want to provide all of you with the why. The board had to consider the following when making this decision.

1. Many districts and departments are facing budget reductions. Would attendance and travel to the conference be allowed. At the time we had to sign a contract this was unknown and as of right now is still unknown.
2. Staffing implications. Many law enforcement agencies are still impacted by staffing levels, and this could impact attendance at the conference.

Although we are not going to be together in-person, we will be hosting virtual training opportunities in 2024. The board is hard at work on finalizing all the details but here is a sample of topics.

1. Gang Awareness

2. Legal Updates – New laws, regulations, and court rulings (precedent setting)

3. Restorative Justice – The why, the how and our role in the process.

4. SRO and SSO training roundtable – Hearing from those that the law impact: What is working and what needs improvement.

5. More topics to come.

If you have a training topic for this year virtual training, please e-mail us at [email protected].

We will post registration information on the WSSO website and page when it is available. Stay tuned for more information.
