We are actively monitoring the case of an intercountry adoptee currently detained by ICE in Alabama. This is an urgent and deeply troubling situation, and we are doing everything we can to secure legal support. Please consider donating to our legal clinic so we can continue fighting for intercountry adoptees facing unjust immigration consequences: https://bit.ly/4hu14Yt

We are reaching out to the public to ask for your help with donations to support adoptees in obtaining their citizenship. When these individuals were children, they were promised the security and belonging that comes with having a family. However, many are still struggling to achieve the full rights and recognition that come with citizenship. Your generous donations can help fulfill this promise and provide adoptees with the stability and opportunities they deserve. Thank you for your support.

We're excited to launch our Legal Clinic next week! Our Citizenship Clinic is designed to help adult intercountry adoptees obtain the citizenship they should have received when they were adopted into the United States. To continue this crucial work, we need your support! Please consider donating to our clinic to assist fellow adoptees. Every contribution directly benefits our community.

Every so often, I find myself returning to this page, feeling the urge to share my thoughts. Yet, as I ponder over what to say, I realize that it often feels like everything has already been said before. This year marked my 53rd birthday, or rather, last year did, and the question that weighs heavily on my mind is: when will I finally be able to return home? The ache of separation intensifies each time Vanessa, my daughter, visits, only to be torn away from me again. Living as a deported adoptee means enduring this unbearable pain of uncertainty, never knowing when—or if—we'll be reunited.

I consider myself fortunate to receive an annual visit from Vanessa, though sometimes even that feels like a rare blessing. This year, we were fortunate enough to have a friend of hers contribute towards the cost of her ticket, but I can't help but worry about the future. When will we have the means to afford her next visit? Do those back home ever consider the financial and emotional strain we endure when they casually scroll past posts about deported adoptees? Perhaps today, I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed, and maybe I should just keep these feelings to myself. But deep down, I can't shake the feeling of being disposable, of grappling with this burden alone, even though I know it's my struggle to bear, not anyone else's.

Thoughts and struggles of a deported adoptee.
