Lake Erie Islands Conservancy Encouraging conservation and protection of natural and agricultural lands in the Lake Erie Islands.

The Lake Erie Islands Conservancy (LEIC) is based on Put-in-Bay, South Bass Island, Ohio, in the island archipelago of the western basin of Lake Erie. Under the Black Swamp Conservancy, the Lake Erie Islands Chapter was created in 2000 by dedicated individuals whose goal is to protect and conserve natural areas from rapidly encroaching commercial and private development. In 2015 the entity became

a sole nonprofit under the new name Lake Erie Islands Conservancy. The Lake Erie Islands are part of a unique environment that provides habitat for migrating birds and home for a host of indigenous flora and fauna. LEIC outreach and education includes talks on natural history, eco tourism, trail walks, birdwatching, bird and Monarch butterfly banding and tagging, and Road Scholar programs. Our mission is to help create heightened awareness of the special and fragile environment of the Lake Erie Islands, preserve and protect our natural heritage, enhance the quality of life, and foster awareness of our island eco system for generations to come. We welcome you to explore and enjoy Ohio’s Lake Erie islands.
