For those of you subscribed to this page, you might not know that the organization which led to the Purdy Renewal Project is still alive and well. More details about its reorganization are coming, but if you are longing to experience more sense of community purpose, the Purdy High Spanish Club keeps the recycling program staffed every Tuesday from 3:30 until 6:00.

Last night at the recycling building, Damian Graessle, Spanish Club recycling coordinator, received a set of keys to the building. Bob Vice presented the keys and explained the responsibility while club president Ryan Mitchell looked on. We have survived the summer and we are eager to welcome back more of our student workers!

Security has been improved for the Purdy caboose, and we are grateful to Marcus Owen for his careful welding efforts. Now we are trying to figure out how to help young people treasure this space, rather than want to break in.

This is the new sign, designed by Philip Vanvoorst, which will replace the old names stenciled outside the caboose. These are all the names we have been able to find, but if you know someone else who should be on it, please let us know before we go ahead with the sign!

A rare look inside the Purdy caboose shows that it needs a bit of sprucing up, and now that the new windows are keeping out the rain, we are planning to fix the rotten pieces of flooring, refinish it all and repaint the walls. It's always an exciting, nervous moment when we start a new campaign, to see who will step up for our community, but this will be a modest fundraiser compared to raising money for playground equipment!

As you can see from this cold-day window installation picture, the inside of the caboose is a silver-to-battleship gray. The walls need a thorough cleaning before we paint a more intersting color, and now that the windows are no longer leaking, we can have the floor repaired and refinished. We hope to have it shining by the Purdy Festival.

Back on January 5th, we had one of our the coldest winter days. but that was when Monett Glass had a slot to start installing new windows in the Purdy caboose, and they are done, waiting for the final push to renovate the interior so that it may be unlocked and enjoyed at times, as during the Purdy Festival. It's the final task for the Purdy Renewal Project.
