Registration is open for our first Rooted Children series.

If your child loves digging in the dirt, collecting rocks, picking flowers, looking for bugs, asking endless questions, making messes, and spending time outside, and you want them to try more veggies this might be for you.

Rooted Children is a weekly outdoor program at JK Community Farm where children connect to food, nature, and community through hands-on experiences on a working farm.

Over six weeks, we’ll have activities like enchanted seed paper, create natural chalk and playdough, kids beekeeping, go on nature adventures, harvest vegetables, explore pollinators, create art with natural materials, listen to stories, and have conversations about food, nutrition, and where our food comes from.

The first hour of each session is designed for children and caregivers to participate in together. Afterward, families have the option to stay while parents volunteer at the farm and children continue in guided nature play nearby.

Visit our Rooted Education Page on Facebook for registration and updates💚

Rooted in the soil
Rooted in education you can feel
Rooted in community
and in the morals and values that guide everything we do

That food should nourish
That it should be accessible
And that we all have a role in caring for one another
All rooted in the same purpose
to connect us to the land, to our food, and to each other.

This is just the beginning
Leading into expanded programming this fall!

Somewhere along the way, this became more than a farm. It became a place that people take care of, and a place where people take care of each other.

That’s a wrap on our 7th annual Plant-a-Thon.

Over $15,000 raised and 60,000 seedlings are now in the ground and planted by hundreds of hands from this community. What started months ago in the greenhouse is now in the field, beginning the work of becoming fresh, healthy food for our food pantry partners across our region.

We are incredibly grateful for our 2026 acreage sponsors Virginia Easement Exchange, Bunch Dewalder Family, the Joseph E Robert’s, Jr Charitable Trust and the teams who showed up alongside us this weekend. This work would not be possible without your commitment not just to supporting a farm, but to supporting a model that grows nutrient dense food intentionally for people who need it.

Together, we’re working toward growing and donating 285,000 pounds of fresh, nutrient-dense food this season. That food moves quickly from our fields into the hands of our food pantry partners organizations who know their communities, who see the need every day, and who ensure this food reaches the families who rely on it.

This is what it looks like when a community comes together around something bigger than itself.

To our sponsors, our volunteers, and our corporate partners thank you for believing in this work, for showing up, and for making it possible to grow food that is not leftover, not excess, but grown with intention for those who need it most. Thank you to our incredible volunteer community and teams from , , , Keen and Pocock, and Evolve HR for another wonderful Plant-a-Thon event.

The Earth gives freely, and so do we 🌱

This all gets planted this weekend.

60,000 seedlings, grown over the past few months in our greenhouse, now ready for the field.

What we plant now will fill our food pantries with fresh, healthy food all season long.

This weekend is also one of the most important funding moments of our year. It helps make everything that comes next possible planting, harvesting, and getting that food into the hands of families across our community.

If you’ve been thinking about coming out to the farm, this is the weekend.

And if you can’t make it, you can still be part of it. Your support helps us get every seedling in the ground and every harvest where it’s needed most.

Register or give through the link in our bio.

The Earth gives Freely, and so do we. 🌱

We talk a lot about feeding our community.
This is a part of it too. Raising the next generation to understand and care about real food.

05/11/2026

Our food will never be sold. Not because it isn’t valuable but because people are.
Everything we grow here is planted specifically for people in our community facing food insecurity.
Fresh, nutrient dense food grown with the same level of care and quality we would want for our own families.
