𝟓 𝐒𝐔𝐂𝐬 𝐯𝐢𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐚 𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐘𝐅𝐂 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧

Five (5) State Universities and Colleges in Cagayan Valley competed in the first-ever Young Farmers Challenge Intercollegiate Competition held at DA-CVRC, City of Ilagan, Isabela on October 4, 2023.

The Department of Agriculture expanded the coverage of the YFC this year through an Intercollegiate Category as a subcomponent of the YFC Start-up which aims to transform the ideas of students into profitable agribusiness venture.

The promising young farmers who pitched their Business Model Canvas were:
1. Ariel Jhon Doles, Shavie Gayle Aduca, Simon Emil Cuaresma (Nueva Vizcaya State University) – Catfish Sardines: Novo Vizcayano Hito Na
2. Mark Philip Stephen Barrera, Ma. Ysabelle Baggay, Jade Ann Campos (Cagayan State University) – AgriDREAMS (Drone-Enabled AI Management System)
3. Ezra Soriano, Marie Jhoy Cariaga (Isabela State University) – CAbutehan for ISUans
4. Ariel Jan Alcesto, Seth Howell Dela Cruz, Kemberly Dollaga (Quirino State University)– Soyammy (Naturally Flavoured Soya Products)
5. Mercy Cantero, Leslie Gabas, Jay-r Delos Santos, Ivan Joseph Cardona (Batanes State College) – Ivatan Fishda Snacks

The delegates were evaluated in terms of their entrepreneurial attributes, innovativeness, potential for generating revenue stream, value addition, social responsibility, and university engagement.

Only one group will be declared as the winner and will receive financial grant amounting to Php 150,000 as start-up capital in their proposed agri-fishery venture.

The panel of judges who provided critical insights to the presenters was composed of:
1. Mr. Dante B. Tobias, Chairperson of the Regional Agriculture and Fishery Council
2. Ms. Shynne Cecille C. Arao – Senior Trade and Industry Development Specialist of the Department of Trade and Industry
3. Mr. Cloyd Velasco – Entrepreneur (former Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry Regional Governor)
4. Ms. Ma. Rosario U. Paccarangan – Chief of the Agribusiness and Marketing Assistance Division

The success of the event is attributed to the support ang guidance of Dr. Rose Mary G. Aquino, DA RFO 2 OIC, Regional Executive Director, Dr. Roberto C. Out of the 33 provincial awardees of the Young Farmers Challenge Program, 13 young farmers in Cagayan Valley advanced to the Regional Level Competition of YFC Start-up Open Category held at DA-CVRC, City of Ilagan, Isabela on October 2-3, 2023.

The promising young farmers who pitched their Business Model Canvas were:

5. Jeorel Jordz P. Saguibo – Aqua Green Farm
6. Reymond Dela Cruz – The Pig Community
7. Marwin L. Ancheta, Roger Z. Madayag – The Raiser’s Eggs
8. Anthony B. Teofilo Jr. – Agri-Voltaic Indoor Farm (The Future of Farming)
9. Rochelle J. Lafrades – Better Bater Quality Quail Farm
10. Clendy P. Ballucanag, Riza Bautista, Dayana Rose Abu, Miguel Liban – Healthy Snack Basket
11. Lorea Bautista – Mini Siopao and Gourmet Dishes
12. Leomar S. Constantino - DJ Elmrk Mushroom Production and Processing
13. Chester A. Turingan – Chaptu Smart Brooder Technology

The regional qualifiers were evaluated in terms of their entrepreneurial attributes, innovativeness, potential for generating revenue stream, value addition, and social responsibility.

Financial grant amounting to Php 150,000 on top of the Php 80,000 grant received during the provincial level awaits the seven (7) regional winners. This will be utilized for the implementation of their proposed agri-fishery enterprises.

The panel of judges who provided critical insights to the presenters was composed of:

Region 2 young farmers' product display during the Young Farmers Challenge Program Launch 👨‍🌾👩‍🌾

Mr. Jerry Mar G. Rafael, YFC 2021 National Awardee introduced to Senior Usec Domingo Panganiban the processed agri-products of his fellow young farmer-awardees. Crispy Mushy (oyster mushroom chicharon), which Senior Usec held as seen in the photo is a product of Mr. John Reynald Simon, YFC 2021 Regional Awardee.

The Department of Agriculture (DA), through the Agribusiness and Marketing Assistance Service, reaffirmed its commitment to assisting the youth who want to implement their agribusiness venture as it launched the 2023 Young Farmers Challenge (YFC) Program on September 28, 2023, at the Coconut Palace in Pasay City.

Now in its third year, the DA’s YFC Program, which is undertaken in collaboration with the office of Senator Imee Marcos and the Government Service Insurance System, offers financial grant assistance to young Filipinos eager to engage in new agri-fishery enterprises. The grant will serve as initial capital for their intended business endeavor.

“The Department of Agriculture created the Young Farmers Challenge Program to produce the gains of global enterprises with the training and capital they need to make the best of challenges beforehand. Thousands of people have competed in the Young Farmers competitive grant program since its inception. The DA has awarded Php 149 million in grants to 3,000 young entrepreneurs since 2021,” DA Senior Undersecretary Domingo Panganiban said during the launching.

Seven young farmers of Region 2 attended the recently concluded YFC Program Launch in Coconut Palace, Pasay City on September 28, 2023.

As proof of the successful implementation of agri-enterprises, the YFC awardees flexed their wide array of fresh and processed agri-products through a product display.

The event was graced by Senator Imee R. Marcos, principal sponsor of the program, along with Senior Undersecretary Domingo F. Panganiban and OIC, ASEC for Consumer Affairs Junibert E. De Sagun.
