Date: One night only on Sept. 5th at 7:00 PM Tickets via CateBelleveau@MaskRose on Venmo starting on May 1 with only 135 seats available .
• Premise: The play challenges the notion of Dorothy as the "loneliest woman in America," as she was called by a Saturday Night Evening Post journalist who visited her . The play highlights her choice to live in the BWCA, her connection with visitors, and her struggle with the U.S. Forest Service as the area moved to a designated wilderness area , and her cabin on “ her island” was grandfathered in .
Some facts about Dorothy Molter (The "Root Beer Lady")
• She owned and operated the Isle of Pines Resort on Knife Lake in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.
• She was known for selling or giving away thousands of bottles of homemade root beer annually.
• She was a staple of the area from the 1930s until her passing in 1986. Her beloved cabin was moved after she died , and is now a museum in Ely , MN .
We believe the opportunity is for local audiences to learn more about this area of Minnesota that is in the news presently and about one of its fascinating characters will be enjoyable and educative . We appreciate that this presentation aligns with the Mask and Rose Theater ’s mission to feature underproduced female playwrights . We hope it might spark conversations on what the benefits of leaving some portions of out great wild places undeveloped by humans .

Now that my carefree vagabond life of 3 weeks has ended , my mind turns to art offerings coming up soon (as the weather warms ) at the Wild Rose Theater . In May is the Women’s Film Fest . June brings the Sister Song Concert ( offering musical scholarships for 2 female musicians ) and loads of local female musicians showing their chops . July will be a historical periods fashion show with a twist - we will highlight many local artists who create wearable art ( Mary Therese, Donna Alena Hrabcakova, hopefully Monica Hansmeyer & Hattie Peterson with their jewelry and others ! Then as a great lover of wild places and the BWCA we are SUPER jazzed to produce “ The Root Beer Lady “ with one show only on Sept. 5th !! Stay tuned on the Mask and Rose Women’s Theater Facebook site or www.maskrose.com !
