World Refugee Day: A Story of Hope
When war forced John and his family to flee the Democratic Republic of Congo, they lost nearly everything.
Many of John's relatives were killed in the conflict. Only John, his wife Leontine, their two daughters, and fourteen grandchildren survived. They eventually found refuge in a settlement camp in Uganda, where all 18 family members were living in a small, leaking tent.
"When it rained, water filled the tent," John recalls. "The children cried from hunger, and when they asked me to build a house, I felt hopeless because I had no way to provide for them."
At 64 years old, John had lost his home, his farm, and his livelihood. But God had not forgotten him.
Through Heaven's Family ministry partners, John was invited to attend Farming God's Way training and a local God's Love Group. There, he heard the Gospel, gave his life to Christ, and was baptized alongside two of his children.
Then came another blessing he never expected.
Through the generosity of Heaven's Family donors, John's family received a new home.
"Now my wife and I sleep well," John says. "The children have enough room, and we no longer worry when it rains. I could never have built this house myself. When they told me it was for my family, I could hardly believe it."
Today, John is learning sustainable farming methods, growing vegetables for his family, and building a new future rooted in faith and hope.
His story is one of many.
In Uganda, Heaven's Family helps refugee families meet urgent needs while sharing the hope of Christ through housing projects, Farming God's Way training, God's Love Groups, food assistance, and discipleship.
And in Myanmar, where ongoing conflict has displaced thousands, local churches are caring for refugee families by providing food, clean water, livestock, shelter, and Christ-centered community. Through these efforts, new house churches are forming and lives are being transformed even in the midst of hardship.
This World Refugee Day, we're reminded that refugees don't just need shelter—they need hope.
Thank you for helping provide both. ❤️
