Our Circle Of Sisterhood Story

The Panhellenic Council at Washington State University became a Campus Parter of Circle of Sisterhood in 2010 to advocate for the education of girls and women globally. The council has put on many fundraising events in recent years and in March 2019, those funds were put into action! A team of 12 Panhellenic members, plus one Circle of Sisterhood representative (and Coug alumnae) went on Trek in Malawi! The group worked with the community to build a second two-classroom building in Kapundu Village. This addition will give community members the opportunity to attend what is the equivalent to 7th and 8th grade without having to travel long distances or not attend class at all because of weather or other factors. Working alongside community members to create something that would result in permanent change was a humbling experience for the Panhellenic members. On June 6, 2019 the school was completed, and now 566 students (279 boys and 289 girls) are now attending classes! The Circle of Sisterhood committee at WSU is hoping to raise enough money for a second school build in Nicaragua, Haiti, Burkina Faso, Senegal, Mali, or Nepal.
