Feed My Lambs, Pulaski VA Provides backpacks full of food to around 200 students each week at both Critzer and Pulaski Element

This program was founded by the Jordan's Chapel United Methodist Women's group and after much prayer and planning decided to start this program and chose to provide for students at nearby Critzer Elementary School. During their first year, the program quickly grew larger than our expectations, showing that there was a great need for this type of hunger relief in Pulaski County. Since then, we have

expanded and also provide meals to students at Pulaski Elementary School and in 2015 Pulaski Head start. We pack and distribute 230 bags of food each week, so that those students will be able to concentrate on school, homework, and the rest of their lives instead of worrying where their next meal will come from.

Hi everyone! What a year this has been? We are reaching out with an issue we are having to see if there is someone out there that can help. Last year we were able to have food delivered for our backpack program from Feeding America SWVA. This year, due to covid and other issues delivery isn't an option. Is there anyone out there with a box truck that could help us by picking up food orders for us in Salem VA at the Feeding America Warehouse? We could shop monthly or every other month if that is more convenient for someone.
If we get the right truck that can back up to the dock, food can be loaded on pallets and unloaded at the church. If it's a smaller truck, it has to be loaded by the case from the food bank. We are non-profit and try very hard to use all of our funding to purchase food for the children in our backpack program. We can buy so much more for our $ shopping at the food bank. We currently are feeding 250 children a week and will be 300 a week by the first of the year. Any advice or help would be appreciated. Please feel free to share.

Hi Folks! We will have a small group of volunteers (less than 10) packing backpacks tomorrow evening at the church and are offering any parent's of students in our programs at Pulaski Elementary and Critzer Elementary the chance to come and pick up their child's backpack of food at the church tomorrow from 6-7 PM, Friday from 10-12 or 3-5 PM. It will be a drive-thru pick up in the parking lot. We plan to pack extra in the bags this week to try and cover this weekend and next. We are in the process of re-evaluating how we will respond to the new closure information. Please let us know if you have any questions. Address/location for the pick up is 5095 Alum Spring Road, Pulaski

After much debating and discussion the Board of Directors for our Backpack program voted/approved for our backpack packing date to be changed from Thursday's at 6 PM to Wednesdays at 6 PM. We hope that ALL our volunteers will still be able to come out to help on Wednesday evenings this year. Part of the reason for this decision is to allow us an extra day for delivery at the schools in case we are short handed or run into problems accessing the schools on Deliver night. Our first night packing this year will be on August 22nd at 6 PM. This will mean that bags will be due back to the schools by Tuesday morning to be filled for the next week. Please help spread the word and share this post.
