From garden to table! 🥕🌱

Our preschoolers at the Harmon Learning Center recently enjoyed one of the sweetest rewards of their hard work—harvesting, washing, chopping, and tasting vegetables they grew themselves in our garden.

Through hands-on experiences like gardening and cooking, our little learners are discovering where food comes from, building healthy habits, and developing confidence as they try new things. There was plenty of excitement (and a few surprised faces!) as they sampled the fruits—and vegetables—of their labor.

At Calfee, we believe some of life's most important lessons happen with dirt on your hands and friends around the table. We're so proud of our young gardeners and can't wait to see what they grow next!

Virginia Tech graduate researcher Lindsay Duffy is seeking women in rural Pulaski and Giles Counties to share their experiences accessing health care. Whether it's finding a doctor, getting to appointments, or navigating insurance, your story can help advance research aimed at improving health care in rural communities.
If you:

• Identify as a woman
• Live in a rural part of Pulaski or Giles County
• Are 18–55 years old
• Speak English

…you may be eligible to participate in a 60-minute interview at a location convenient for you.

🎨 A New Addition to Calfee!

Take a look at the beautiful new mural panels now installed outside the Calfee Community & Cultural Center!

Created by former New River Community College student Nicole Webb (Class of 2025).

Among those featured are Calfee educators Hazel Calfee, Willis Cabell Gravely, Gretchen H. Washington, Chauncey Harmon, and Lucy Martin Harmon, alongside influential figures such as Thurgood Marshall, Dr. Percy C. Corbin, Simone Biles, Audre Lorde, Mary McLeod Bethune, President Barack Obama, Henrietta Lacks, Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson, Emmett Till, President Nelson Mandela, Michelle Obama, Shirley Chisholm, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Maya Angelou, and Harriet Tubman.

These murals serve as a powerful reminder that history is not only something we preserve, it is something we continue to learn from. We invite you to stop by Calfee, explore the artwork, and reflect on the remarkable individuals whose stories have shaped our communities and our nation!

Nearly 50 years ago, members of New Century United Methodist Church came together to improve their church building through volunteer service. Since then, that congregation has become part of what is now Randolph Avenue United Methodist Church, alongside Clark's Chapel and, more recently, Slaughter's Chapel.

This Sunday, we're grateful to gather in a church whose history reflects decades of faith, service, and community. Following worship, join the Calfee Community & Cultural Center for our Souls on Fire Digital Day as we work together to preserve the photographs, documents, and stories that have shaped generations of our community.

The generations before us built places of worship, nurtured communities of faith, and left behind a remarkable legacy. Now, it's our turn to ensure those stories are preserved for generations yet to come.
