Makes one wonder what, as a youth growing up along the Fountain, Damon discovered and saw!

Author presentation and book signing co-hosted by the Pueblo Archaeological Society and the Fountain Creek Watershed District, Wednesday, November 6th from 5:30-6:30 at the Pueblo Heritage Museum. Light Refreshments. This event is free, and the book will be available for $20.
Jim O’Donnell sets off from his childhood home in Pueblo, Colorado (born, raised and Central HS grad) exploring the history, ecology, and commodification of Fountain Creek—challenging us to reexamine how we relate to the world around us and how we might break free to a brighter future.
"Every stream in the American West deserves a biographer as affectionate, thorough, and lyrical as Jim O'Donnell." —Ben Goldfarb, Crossings
From its headwaters high up Colorado’s legendary Pike’s Peak to suburban concrete-lined canals, Fountain Creek has endured nearly everything humans could do to a single watershed. It has been dammed, diverted, drained, poisoned, restored, exploited, ignored—and yet it has survived.
Journalist and archaeologist Jim O’Donnell grew up exploring among the beavers and discarded beer bottles that have long populated Fountain Creek. Irreverent, deeply knowledgeable, and endlessly curious, O’Donnell guides us through the contradictions and complexities of one of the most heavily urbanized areas in one of the fastest-growing states in the nation.
Fountain Creek is at once a reflection of our ever-changing relationship to the natural world and a challenge for each of us to reexamine the many ways we are connected to the world around us, to water, and to each other. Barnes & Noble

📚✨ Honoring 2024 Damon Runyon Scholarship Recipient Julie Fellion ✨📚

Meet Julie Fellion, a history major from Pueblo West, who chose CSU Pueblo for its proximity to family and her deep roots in her hometown. Graduating high school in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic taught Julie the importance of optimism about the future—and she’s committed to shaping it. With plans to study women’s history in graduate school, Julie dreams of one day working in a museum to bring history to life for future generations.

Let’s support students like Julie! Save the date for our upcoming Damon Runyon Days fundraiser on February 7, 2025, at the historic Union Depot. Your support fuels these scholarships and the next generation of scholars. 🎉

🎃⚾️ Halloween at Runyon Field! ⚾️🎃

This November 1st to 3rd, Pueblo is bringing the spirit of Damon Runyon to life with a Halloween softball tournament at Runyon Field, named for the beloved author who proudly called Pueblo his "hometown." Grab your costume, your glove, and join in celebrating Runyon's legacy with a day of community, fun, and spirited competition!

As Runyon once said, “The race is not always to the swift nor the battle to the strong, but that’s the way to bet.” Let’s honor that sentiment, as teams go all out to claim victory in true Runyon style!

Don’t miss out on this chance to experience a bit of Pueblo history while having a spooktacular time. 🎃👻

Today, we remember and celebrate the extraordinary life of Ted "Double Duty" Radcliffe, a legend in the Negro Leagues who played with unmatched talent, resilience, and personality from 1919 to 1954. Known for his rare ability to pitch and catch in the same game, Double Duty was famously given his nickname by writer Damon Runyon, who was so impressed by Radcliffe's performance that he declared him "worth the price of two admissions."

Radcliffe didn’t just make history with his skill; he made it with his heart and humor, chatting up batters to throw them off their game, keeping a chest protector emblazoned with "Thou shalt not steal," and even inventing clever ways to handle the wear and tear of his position. His legacy continues to inspire and remind us of the power of determination, grit, and a love for the game.

The Damon Runyon Days team salutes the life of Double Duty Radcliffe – an All-Star both on and off the field. Let's keep his spirit alive as we honor those who shaped baseball history and American culture.
