Have you tried red light? We offer it here!
This wasn't in my neurology textbooks.
A new clinical study underway in France is investigating whether red light therapy could improve symptoms of Parkinson’s disease. It’s an approach that would have seemed unconventional when I was training as a neurologist, but our understanding of the brain has evolved considerably.
What makes this particularly interesting is the potential influence of red light on mitochondrial function and the activity of microglia, the brain’s resident immune cells. Both are deeply relevant to our understanding of Parkinson’s disease.
We don't yet know what this study will find, but the biological rationale is compelling, and I'm optimistic about what researchers may discover.
I'll be following this research closely.
