Looking to help or grow your community through volunteerism?
Volunteering at the Harbor is easy! Our volunteers are also participants in our program. There is an ethical conduct agreement and general contact information and availability form filled out by the potential volunteer.
We are drop-in style. Meaning you can come and go any time during the day. And time sheets are self-managed and kept at the front desk to be signed off/confirmed by Peers on duty. We do limit the number of daily volunteers to 2 and it is on first come, first serve basis. (If you wanna call ahead to see if you can volunteer that day, you're more than welcome!) As a registered Useful Public Service, we also prioritize justice-involved individuals completing community service hours.
Volunteer activities might include:
Light maintenance work such as cleaning, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, etc.
Light admin work, such as sorting paperwork, filing, data entry and answering the phone/taking messages etc.
Shadowing Peer Specialists, i.e. co-facilitating peer support groups and assisting a Peer in their daily duties and responsibilities
As always, if you have a physical limitation or disability, we can accomodate and ask that our volunteers only work within their means. Meaning, it's okay to tell us no or say you can't! We want to use skills you're already great at!
Finally, if there is ever feedback we should consider, or if you need your hours verified for another organization or community service, report to our volunteer coordinator, Heather McQueen for assistance. We are always open to considering ways to improve our process.
