As Commander of Pryor’s American Legion Post 182, it has come to my attention that a few people were upset after I asked for voices to be lowered during a pinning ceremony taking place in our hall. Due to the current construction, there is a large opening between the hall and bar area, allowing noise to easily carry into the ceremony.

A pinning ceremony for a newly commissioned 2nd Lieutenant is a significant and memorable occasion. It is also the type of event that, as a Veteran Service Organization, we are proud to support and respect. My request was simple — that those enjoying time in the bar help us show respect for the ceremony taking place just a few feet away.

I will never apologize for allowing our Legion to be used for moments that honor service, sacrifice, and military tradition. I also will not apologize for asking for a few moments of courtesy and respect during such an important occasion.

It is important to remember: The Legion has a bar, but it is much more than a bar. We are, first and foremost, an organization dedicated to Veterans, service members, their families, and our community. The games, food, and fellowship are part of what we do — but honoring those who serve will always come first.

A little something for everyone this Memorial Day weekend, and yes… we even decided to throw in a contest Friday night during Karaoke. We can’t wait to see everyone bring out their best “Summer Vibe” attire as we kick off the unofficial start of summer.

Just a reminder: there will be no Fish Night this Friday, and the Post will be closed on Memorial Day.

Come hang out, have some fun, and enjoy the weekend with us at Post 182.
